Kelly's album was released 7 months after the show ended...in the interim both of them toured on the Idol tour and filmed J2K.... when would he have had time to record his album because unlike now they didn't record while on tour back then..... The real thing that killed Justin's momentum was Season 2 having a guy who captured the hearts of the audience.... Clay likely stole a good portion of fans from Justin.... that's reality... not Kelly's fault or the labels fault.... fans are fickle.....

Please explain how Justin could have possibly gotten his music out there before the winner was announced when was still on the show when the winner was announced? He is clearly talking about Pia being allowed to sign with a label already. Not to mentioned that the guy with the wheelchair bound fiancee already recorded a single and sold it on itunes.

Perhaps at some point you might arrive at the understanding that included signing 3 people OTHER than the chosen one the first season, who they felt might compete in some way, and shelving any opportunities that might come their way until the "window of opportunity" passed. They rushed that season out after the success of Season One in the summer, and were shocked by the Clay luv in Season Two, which they did not anticipate. That's why they treated him as the co-winner, and released an album to take advantage of that, but as we all know, they did not promote him to radio at all. At all. They just released his album and let the chips fall where they may. They never really cared about Clay, he wasn't in their game plan. (Then when he abruptly broke with 19, they hated him even more maybe even because he convinced Kelly to flee with him. Let's face it that certainly didn't endear him to them). You can tell this is all true because of they way they treated Diana in Season 3. In other words, back to holding someone back so they could promote someone else. NO ONE was allowed to complete with Fantasia. Even Boomie faded away (only to championed by Hollywood and resurrected there as a f* you to Simon some years later, you better believe it). Same for Season 4 -- Bo got no promotion because it was ALL about Carrie. Season 5 was when they loosened up, and that's what Warwick was talking about when he said, "As we've gone on, we've realized that ... its really unfair to hold someone back just so we can promote someone else."

For instance, if someone asked "What color were the shoes that the idol contestants were forced to wear each week" and he answered "they were black and they were so ugly" would you automatically think he was racist and referring to Justin? Yes, you probably would. He is talking about holding back these singers that were eliminated so early and weren't allowed to do anything until after the winner was announced. They missed out on those extra weeks on the show and all the media attention that the winner and runner up get after the show ends - especially in the weeks leading up to their album release. Since Kimberly Caldwell just came out with her first cd yesterday, there's a good chance he had her in mind with his statement. I remember reading an interview with Justin where he said that he didn't like his first and it wasn't very good (paraphrasing). If even Justin knew the cd was crap, why would people want to buy it or radio play it? I also remember Justin showing up on at least half the shows that Kelly did, tagging along with her. Exactly how did he not get any promotion? You sound like a Claymate, always blaming everything else except the low quality product itself (the cd, not Justin, since I know you perceive everything as being about Justin the person).

[/quote] Maybe they didn't treat Justin as a co-winner because he was so soundly beaten by Kelly. She won with 58% of the vote if memory serves, which is the largest vote spread in the history of the show (as far as we know). and Clay did get promoted to radio. His first single Invisible was promoted and had a video and made the top 20 on Pop radio. I love that now even you're on the "they never cared about Clay" bandwagon. Yes, they never cared so much that he got Rolling Stone, he got to release his album first, he got to appear on the Christmas special, he got WINNERS treatment even though he didn't win. As for Clay convincing Kelly to flee there is no evidence of this at all. Both Kelly and Simon Fuller have said she requested that she be released and he agreed because he wasn't able to give her the time and attention she felt she needed from a manager. You can tell this is all true because of they way they treated Diana in Season 3. In other words, back to holding someone back so they could promote someone else. Season 5 was when they loosened up, and that's what Warwick was talking about when he said, really? because I seem to recall in Season 6 Blake Lewis was nowhere to be found following Jordin's win. None of the season 6 people received the amount of promotion as Jordin. "As we've gone on, we've realized that ... its really unfair to hold someone back just so we can promote someone else." That's a nice sentiment and all but still doesn't apply to Justin since he was on Season 1 and they were trying to figure out how the show would work and what would happen with these artists once they went into the real world. It was just as likely that kelly could've failed just like Justin for all anyone knew back then; hell most people thought she would.

So, Hollywood has the power to resurrect someone no matter what the evil destroyers try to do, huh? They even had the power to cast Jennifer OVER Fantasia. Then why didn't Hollywood resurrect Justin since according to Foggy, Justin is the "real artist"? I mean, if they saw his remarkable performance in FJTK, why wouldn't they? Or was Fast Girl his resurrection? Foggy contradicts herself so much trying to prove her ridiculous assertions that she's done multiple 180's by the time she hits "post". All this Foggy conspiracy crap is based on the idea that AI was rigged from the very start and that Kelly was a ringer. She has NOTING to back up the foundation of her argument, so all that follows is a house of dung built on quicksand. The people running AI are a business tying to make the most money possible. That's why in Season 1 they signed 4 people instead of just the winner. Remember, only the winner of the competition was advertised as being guaranteed a record deal. So even from S1 they never focused their full attention on promoting just the winner. You can make an argument that they were shorthanded, incompetent, arrogant and controlling in how they wanted to market the people they signed, but they didn't set out to intentionally destroy people they thought would be moneymakers, like Justin and Tamyra. Justin, Bo, Dianna and others all talk about how much being associated with Idol helped them. Not everyone is going to be a huge music star or have worldwide success. There just is no set plan for how to guarantee this kind of success. Ultimately, it all boils down to the fact that these people benefited from Idol and they have more fans and better careers than they had before Idol. It didn't destroy them. It helped them.

He also got promotion for Timeless and Sorry. He gave "visual" performances to millions of people for months on Idol. To tide fans over after Idol he was constantly on entertainment shows like AH and ET. He was on talk shows and morning shows. He was on Oprah. He was in multiple sources for the filming of FJTK. He was back on Idol multiple times. They saw "Timeless". He got a "visual" performance on S2 to remind all his fans and inform new fans he would have an album out. His album was released shortly after S2 ended. I know people are fickle, but if you think someone is really that great, you don't forget about them that quickly, especially not when the place you discovered them reminds you multiple times that they still exist. A lot of the excuses over Justin seem to stem from unmet expectations of him becoming a superstar. But the 58-42 split in the voting ought to be a clue that Justin probably was never as popular as some perceived him to be. He still has a solid career as an entertainer. This is what matters. Glitter: I think Gareth Gates initially outsold Will, but ultimately Will Young had the better sales and has been far more successful. I think at that time, Simon actually wanted Gareth to win over Will so it's not like TPTB had some great displeasure at Gareth's initial success. It's just more speculation used to prop up the argument that Justin was somehow "destroyed".

I think we've gone around and around with discussion too many times to add anything new. So, all I'm gonna say is it IS interesting that the most interest from this show STILL revolves around the first couple of seasons, and I agree the staying power of the lead contestants from that time far exceeds anything we ever could have predicted. Gotta run! Its been fun. :)

Bittersweet with the imminent closing, the audience was pumped to celebrate, and the full cast was there ready to record their work into the video history of Broadway. The excitement was palpable, and given the age range of the crowd and multitudes of Green Day fans, it was electric, but respectfully subdued, as if we were all on the same page: celebrate, appreciate, and let the best possible show get into the history books. ... Justin Guarini continues to surprise the hell out of me. After an absolutely terrific debut in Women on the Verge, he comes out of the Idiot gate at full, explosive gallop. He is showing an impressive range of talents here, and like Mr. Larsen, I look forward to seeing his growth into a true Broadway star. Mr. Guarini's performance as couch potato/slacker Will is incredible. I don't think there is any more anyone could do with the role without destroying its intent. He performs with such passion and depth, that at last Will is an equal among these three friends, who undergoes as life-changing a journey as the going nowhere fast drugged up loser Johnny almost becomes and the permanently scarred, but ultimately strong Tunny. His lack of experience shows only a little as relies frequently on the same wide-eyed glare expression to show us he REALLY means what he's saying, and one wishes he'd tug on his shirt to expose his abs (nice as they are) every time he gets confused and tries to hide it. But other than that, WOW! :)
