The only slight negative on Rob was the 'cult' episode, but it made his tribemates look worse than he did for allowing themselves to be led around like sheep. I'm just not seeing it.

I've been suggesting that normal Edgic rules don't apply this season because personal experience tells me that sometimes (not often, but sometimes) unique events force the editors' hands, In Guatemala, I saw what was happening with Stephenie, picked up on some clues and somehow picked Danni. In Gabon, where one player singled-handedly decided the outcome by trsashing her own chances, I was certain that the winner would be a postively edited character and almost as certain that they would come from Kota. In the end I eliminated Bob who fit both criteria because he didn't fit edgic guidelines and went for Matt instead. (I did, however, eliminate Marcus very early and promised never to contribute to this forum again if Kenny won - for anyone with time to kill, have a look at the thread). Since then, I resolved never to fall into the same trap again. In 90% of seasons, Edgic rules have and will continue to serve us well. However, every now and then, circumstances conspire to create a situation where the editors are forced to do things differently. As I've said, I believe this to be one of those seasons.

I have essentially assumed Mike would win since episode one, and assumed that the Edgic thread would mirror that selection. Once he was sent to redemption, I decided to come check and see if Edgic was beginning to doubt who I took for granted as their pick. Gotta say, I was shocked to see Andrea as the lead choice. Now she could be a Danni sort of situation, but with Andrea I keep thinking there are plenty of points where it seems like her character could become interesting but then she is mostly just passed over. She seems like someone that they might want to build up as a potential winner late in the game, but I would be pretty surprised should she win. But then who? I honestly don't see a better choice than Mike at this point, even if he is in Matt's Crying Shack right now. He's been consistent, damnit. If Rob DID win, of course they would give him all the pomp and circumstance and editing glory in the world...but they would do that if he lost, too. He's going to get special treatment no matter what so I don't have the best read on him. It's just...he's SO, SO present. I've considered Matt, but he MUST talk about something other than Jesus while he's out there. If he won, I would think we'd get a little bit more of that. I suppose Andrea doesn't look so bad next to everyone else, now that I think about it. It's just with Mike still technically in the game, I've gotta stick with him, as I honestly don't find anyone's edit to have been nearly as strong at this point.

He's going to be Ian part two. Getting his ass handed to him over and over again by Rob on Nicaragua and then giving Rob the million dollars too. That's embarrassing. He seems like a good kid. I hope he can recover from his embarrassment. Don't worry Matt, you're not the first one Rob has made look foolish in the game of Survivor. You're just not in his league when it comes to this game. While you were praying and waiting for something to happen, Rob took his fate into his own hands.

(Thanks to Warrior for the chart.) I don't remember the merge eps for Guatemala and FvsF, but these comparisons hold through Eps 7-9. CP Ratings through the Merge Ep Andrea's chart holds 4 CP ratings through Ep8. Make it 3 if you don't like a CP1. And 1 official INV. Danni has 1. Bob has zero. Parvati has 2. NatalieW has 1 and 1 INV. Sandra has 1. Jud has 1 and 1 INV. UTR1s thru the Merge Ep Danni does well with just 1 UTR1. Bob hits the jackpot with 5 UTR1s before the merge. Parvati has a respectable 2. Sandra 3. Judd has zero UTR1s, but he has that INV and 3 OTTs! Andrea has an Ep1 UTR1 like NatalieW. She has 3 Vis 1s, plus the INV. As noted, Natalie does better in visibility ratings with the opening UTR1 and the 1 INV, before her merge. After the Merge Everyone picks up a little steam after Ep8/9. But Natalie has 3 UTR1s in a row, before she hits CPP3 at Ep13! Danni also has a UTR1 left in her at Ep11. Andrea's edit looks as good or better than the rest of the UTR (OTT) winners through the merge ep. Her immediate stall afterwards goes against the past edits. But NatalieW shows that a winner story can be activated very close to the end.

He'll get a tremendous tribute at the Reunion for standing firm in his convictions despite the temptations. That's the entire point of his one-dimensional religious edit. He has stood firm and will continue to do so till the end. We need to separate what we expect from savvy Survivor contestants and what people who share his faith will be satisfied with. Don't forget the entire Christian tradition was founded on people willingly suffering, foregoing earthly rewards and even going to their death for the sake of their faith. Everyone making the comparison to Natalie W seems to be forgetting that Natalie W received 4 episodes in a row with positive tone starting with the merge along with recap credit for the Erik boot for two episodes after it happened.

I ain't going to rehash the arguments about Andrea's early content v that of Natalie W and other UTR winners. I'm just going to point out that her absence from the recaps. Given the editorializing way those recaps are used these days, anyone who has not been mentioned in them in any meaningful way by Episode 10 cannot be said to be intended to be on anyone's radar. Or even under it.
