His performance this season was excellent, but so incredibly lopsided. I don't consider him among the best players ever (top 15-20, sure). There were other players who were able to "get" the game at a much faster pace than he was able to.

If you want to argume that he hasn't always had the best strategic game or social game or physical game, I think that reasonable arguments can be made for all of those. But when you take a combination of all three and add to it his leadership skills, basic survival skills, and puzzle abilities; he really is about as complete a package as they have had on Survivor.

Is Michael Jordan not the greatest because he couldn't reach the NBA finals for the first six years on the team? Is Usain Bolt's record-breaking run less impressive because he wasn't able to do it the first several thousand times he ran 100m? Previous performances have nothing to do with how impressive a feat is as it stands.

Even the best player in a season skills-wise probably has a 1 in 5 chance MAX to win the season. An evaluation of Rob's skill set shows that he is clearly a great player. He creates strong relationships, integrates himself and puts himself at the center of dominant alliances, has an intricate understanding of game mechanics, and has a superb individual and team challenge game. The truth is that even the elite players like Rob, Sandra, Parvati, Tina, Richard, Brian, Tom, etc are never favorites against the field to win a given season, so we should expect not to see them win any given season.
