The Italian Beef sandwih he made looked good. The home made jardiniere was something I was curious about, since Bobby Flay is always zinging ppl on not making their own. IDK Jeff is a better host than Susie, but I have a feeling I would get more out of her show. We'll see how long he can stretch this concept.

I agree with all the complaints about Jeff trying to be funny and his show concept being kinda lame and limited, but I don't think Susie would have made a better choice. I'd like for someone who actually wants to cook Mexican food win instead of someone who will cook anything to be famous and who seems kind of down on Mexican food by her comments about it needing to be made beautiful or elegant. One thing that bothered me this season is that although I personally liked Penny and love Middle Eastern food, she was clearly cast as a villain and was never a serious contender to win, despite the judges saying week after week that they loved her food and would never forget it. I get that producers cast fodder to enable the show they want to win, but is sandwiches such a high need demographic on FN that they would cast fodder in order to enable a sandwich show win? It doesn't make sense. I'd love to learn how to make Middle Eastern food from scratch and it bugged me that the person who could have done that was a non-factor all along.

Before any of the drama happened I could see this. I guess it wasn't important enough for the Food Network to have a Middle Eastern food show to cast someone likeable.

Remove this ad Though I didn't really care who won this season of NFNS--hell, I don't watch any of the other winners!--today I watched Jeff's first 2 shows and enjoyed them. He's big, puffy, and likeable. (Though I expect he'll eventually undergo a Tyler-Florence-like weight reduction to improve his telegenicity.) He was engaging, and enthusiastic, and convinced me to try at least two of his recipes. And I think a sandwich show is a good marketing ploy in this miserable economy.

Remove this ad SO I just saw Sandwich King and had to turn it off. He is boring as shit, and they seem to have no clue how to sell him. He was making a fried fish sandwich and they spent a mystifying five to ten minutes of the show in a giant refrgerator room talking about various kinds of fish. Then he blah blah blahed about a few things and had next to zero star quality doing so. I honestly wanted to give it a try. I generally give everybody at least a full episode. But I have no interest in this show: not the muddied concept, not the execution, not the star.
