I fear this will be the last season...I wouldn't worry all that much about the ratings for SPN because this is THE CW. If you look at how everything did this week (minus Gossip Girl and Heart Of Dixie, both yet to premiere), everything is about equal. Not a single show (including The Vampire Diaries) did anything super special for the network. If SPN keeps up these numbers and the creators and stars agree, I see no reason why it wouldn't be given a renewal.

I've been poking around season 1 and 2, and it's good, but I want it to get SERIALIZED cause I don't care about MOTW stuff. When does this show get all mythology-like? I want to start watching from that point.

Piranhahaha wrote:YAY for SI catching up! I dunno what to make of the two new eps, which felt like a double premiere. They're playing a little too fast and lose with Cas & Crowley, and not to mention Sam's head. It's as if they're saying goodbye to any new viewers and making the lives of us veteran watchers a living hell (albeit not a cage hell...). AND I think they're ramping up the complexity to disguise that in reality, not much is really going on except for the Leviathans appearing on the scene. I do like these Leviathans as big bads though. Their organization surpasses all big bads before, but are rubes. Interesting juxtaposition. There's no way Cas is dead. In fact, my DirecTV ep description noted that Cas had a role in the 2nd ep despite not ultimately appearing. The downside is that with these critters in the pipelines, it's a knockoff of the Buffy ep with the evil swim team coach. (Buffy & the Scoobies easily bounced them.) Still, good old SPN: complex to being maybe a little overly complex, but even with that, miles ahead of any thinking man's sci fi made since BSG. It's always fun to see Death fighting below his weight while negotiating with the annoying protoplasm, particularly with a pair of terrified civilians looking on.

Remember it was right after John's death that Dean got all chummy with Gordon, who wanted to kill anything non-human. It's an oversimplification that allows him to ignore shades of grey so he can feel confident in his actions. Lying to Sam about trusting his decision not to kill Amy wasn't meant to be malicious. Dean's just trying to clean up after his brother, who he thinks isn't mentally capable of making decisions right now.

JustAHotMess wrote:OK, so this episode can be filed under "WTF?!" I think the writers have completely gone off the rails. And you know what? I don't even have a problem with Dean killing Amy. Who the hell is she to think she can decide who gets to live or die in order to save her son? Did she know the stories behind every "bad buy" she killed? And Dean is right, she would have killed again...if it meant keeping her son alive, she'd do it again. Dean learned with Elanor (the "good" vamp) that just because a monster is sympathetic does not mean that they are not a danger to humans. Elanor returned to killing, and those deaths are really on Sam and Dean. But OK, so even if I can rationalize Amy's death...WTF is up with NOT killing the son? So what if he hasn't killed again? How is he going to survive without human brains? Dean took away his only non-lethal way of getting them (Amy's mortician's job). So Dean kills his mother and then just says...don't kill...or I'll come getcha. Dumb fuck, the kid NEEDS brains to survive!! How is he NOT going to kill people?! What a dumb-fuck writing BLUNDER. So goddamned dumb. Oh...then Dean asks the kid..."You got somewhere to go?" The kid nods "yep". So Dean lets him go to people who are probably MONSTERS, too. But Amy had to die. OoooOoOOOoOoOkayyyy. The episode would have been MUCH more interesting had they NOT left the hospital and had a cat-and-mouse-game with the wounded Winchesters and the Leviathans. THAT would have been worth the hour I spent on the show. What I got was a crapfest of the crappiest writing I've seen in a long, long time. And I take absolutely NO pleasure in beating up on the show. This little GEM of a show has been my favorite for years and years, and I have defended it and stayed with it even through shitfests like Soulless!Sam. I had really hoped and hoped that Season 7 would be better, but this...this just sucks. It's like the writers saw all the hub-bub of Dean-girls complaining that Dean hadn't had a decent storyline since Season 4 (which lead abso-fucking-lutely nowhere), and decided to completely remove any sympathy that anyone had for the character just to shut them up. No one's gonna give a fuck about a storyline for a character that no one gives two tits for. Am I bitter? You bet your sweet ass I am. I dunno. I'm disappointed. I was hoping and praying for a Season 8, but at this point...I really don't care anymore. The show is just tail-spinning. And it truly saddens me, because I am really on the side of the actors and crew of this show. I'm probably over-reacting, but I really hated the end of that episode. Dean should have either left Amy alive or he should have killed the son, too. Maybe you all have thoughts and ideas that I am missing, but I was totally disappointed in that eppie. Hey, at least Jensen put Mt. Baker in one of the last shots with the Impala! I squee'd when I saw it. I'm originally from Whatcom County and was raised in the shadow of that mountain. Heh.

Ever since Kripke left, I feel the show has lost some heart. Sure there have been some good eps here and there, but it's not the same. I also agree with the cat and mouse game in the hospital. That could of been a lot of fun. I just wish this show could get back on track to the season 2 years. It's really getting old to see Sam and Dean fucking each other over season after season only to have a fight and resolve nothing... They've been through a lot and some character progression would be nice. That story line is played out... Try something new. change the dynamic. These guys should be on the same page and firing on all cylinders and closer than ever. I also wasn't crazy about this past Osiris episode.

These guys should be on the same page and firing on all cylinders and closer than ever. I also wasn't crazy about this past Osiris episode. Yeah, the Osiris episode didn't do anything for me one way or the other, and it's kind of sad because I really like Dean, so any Dean-centric episode is always a plus for me. And yet, it was just a lot of sitting around talking, and I was actually a little bored! Me...bored with Dean! Inconceivable! And yet it happened. I get that Dean feels guilty, but this is nothing new or earth-shattering. I think most viewers want Dean to see himself the way WE see him. It's very saddening to know that Dean thinks he's "90% crap", but then again...not a lot of new information here. I enjoyed seeing Jo, but she didn't really get through to Dean, either. He still feels worthless even after the episode, so we're just back to same-ol'-same-ol' for the Winchesters. So the opportunity for growth was just lost and Dean's self-loathing was just highlighted for the sake of upsetting both him...and the audience. I think it was a decent enough MOTW eppie, but not one that really satisfied. At least not me. I'm not sure if that's the show's fault or mine. I understand that shows age, and sometimes in their later seasons they can get away from what made them so special. It's just really sad to see it happen to this one, because I totally agree with you, this used to be the very best show that no one knew about. I'm honestly not sure what is lacking. I also agree with you that the boys should be on the same page...no more hallucinations or permanent breaking of the characters (I hate that they say that Sam will NEVER be OK, and he will just have to learn to live with his hell PTSD), go fight the Leviathans and save Castiel. If the boys are going to angst at least let them have a little character growth as a result. I didn't see that for Dean in this episode. I'm sure he even feels WORSE at this point, because Sam stood up and defended him...all the while Dean kept the secret of having killed Amy from him the entire time. I don't mind a side-order of angst, but this is all-angst-all-the-time, and it gets me down. I know this show can do better. Lots better. I hope they get their groove back. As I said, I really love these actors and know how passionate the crew is. They work too hard to have me furrowing my brows at the TV because the writing is all over the place.

That episode was just a weak 'War of the Roses'- 'Mr.&Mrs. Smith' cop-out. I love this show- shot locally..but, it was a pretty simple, going no-where episode. I hope they get a theme going with some stronger characters.
