Even darker shows like Deadwood, Breaking Bad, Sopranos, they all have quite a bit of humor, and I find this show generally lacks that. But maybe it's just me.

I wonder why Nucky hasn't told James or the Commodore about that? I guess Gillian figured James would inherit everything sooner.... Somebody said the women on this show are all screwed up, I think James' mom might be the biggest screwball.

No question about it. She not only flat out confessed to doing it in a roomful of people that included the Commodore, Deputy Halloran, Dr. Surran, Nucky, James, and James' mother, but she also volunteered her reasons and said she regretted not succeeding. She said he, "treat that dog better than me." Deputy Halloran: "Why did you do this?" Mrs. Pratt: "Poison him? 'Cause if I used a shotgun I'd have to clean up the mess myself. I had all I could take of his abuse." The writers conclusively and unambiguously wrapped up that plot line in last year's finale. It cleared up all the clues given; the slow months-long poisoning, the poison in all the food, stew, cookies, even toothpaste, yet no poison in the maid's food, the poisoned dog from eating leftovers, the cookies the maid tried to prevent James from eating that made him instantly sick, the admission and final confession. They left no doubt about who poisoned the Commodore. None at all.

The episode specifically opened with a conversation between Lucy and Van Alden that discussed and setup the matter of the "VV-80" "Victrola." There was no mention of a Victrola between Lucy and Eddie Cantor and it doesn't make any sense to the plot lines to have Eddie Cantor buying Lucy expensive ($100 in 1921) household gifts. It does advance the relationship plot line between Van Alden and Lucy. As you say, Van Alden is in a way trying to compete with the "fun" Nucky Thomspon. Also, the delivery man flatly says the Victrola was sent by "Mr. Mueller" (Van Alden's alias) This is stated very unambiguously. There is no mistaking "Mr. Mueller" for "Eddie Cantor." Lastly, when Van Alden comes home he isn't surprised to find an expensive Victrola and he watches Lucy dance to the music. By the way, the conversation between Eddie Cantor and Lucy also says something about the Lucy-Van Alden relationship. Lucy doesn't appear to know that Van Alden is an agent. She describes him to Cantor only that he is married and is "some prohi I met in a speak" So, apparently Lucy knows Nelson only as "some prohi" (some prohibitionist) and not as a government agent.

Also every time they show Chalkie with his family I panic and I am afraid some klan are going to show up and murder them. You would think I would feel better after tonights episode that it was just Chalkie being a drunken ass toward them but now I am pretty confident that something horrible will happen to them and he will feel guilty because of the way he behaved.

You don't remember the Commodore at a strapping age of 53 plying the pre-pubescent 13 year old Gillian with wine than viciously raping her and getting her knocked up at the same time? I'm surprised she didn't smother him instead, it was brutal watching her bitchslap the old pedophile though. So all of the above maybe?

The Commodore can only say one word that makes sense-COCK, that's a good one. Years of bottled up rage got to Gillian, next week his face should be a nice shade of purple. I thought Margaret was turning into Leona Helmsly but then she is save her cash either for her siblings or her exit plan. Now that is how you throw a birthday party for a politician, these modern day assholes just don't know you need a bunch of hookers in dominatrix gear with riding crops, well, maybe the Kennedys knew. When Doyles place blew up I thought it was AHS's Larry the burn guy in the role, what will Van Asshole do when he finds out his men were going rogue on him? Poor Chalkie, can get no respect or rice and beans, can't blame him at all. I love them too. Richard Harrow again makes us weepy, I was glad he didnt get killed in the explosion, whew, I thought that was going to happen for sure. BE trumps Zombies this week. ETA Just reading Sepinwall's review- this paragraph especially And we already know that it's not easy being Richard Harrow - and that Jack Huston is mesmerizing - but his portrait session with Angela was a fantastic sequence nonetheless, and one that left me feeling like I know the man a bit more than Jimmy admits to at the end of it. I loved the way the scene was put together so that we're focusing on the same things Angela is - his hands, his eyes, his mouth - and yet always aware of the parts that we assume we're not going to see. And then after he reveals more of his inner self to Angela than he's told anyone else - with the poignant monologue about the sister he no longer feels connected to since he came back from the war - he's finally comfortable enough in showing her his outer self. Posts: 1747 (10/23/11 06:54 AM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	I saw this on Deadline Hollywood (this is Nikki Finke): "I received a phone call earlier this week that UTA on Tuesday fired actor Michael Pitt who plays Jimmy Darmody on the HBO series. “If you decide to post about someone (probably WME) signing Michael Pitt, who is one of the stars of Boardwalk Empire, please note that UTA fired him as a client yesterday because he’s really difficult on set and otherwise.” I felt that Pitt was too small a name to bother posting this bad news (I’d never heard of him) or that he had landed at WME. But since the news of the WME signing is now out there, I thought Deadline readers deserved to have the complete story. I understand that UTA agent Billy Lazarus spent “many years” making Pitt into a working actor. So it’s safe to assume that Pitt must have really pissed off the agency big-time. "
