If you want a good old-fashioned tear-jerker, watch "Stella Dallas." You will need a jumbo-sized box of Kleenex! And "Double Indemnity" is one of the all-time greats. Who knew Fred McMurray could be such a creep?

Who knew Fred McMurray could be such a creep? The LAdy Eve and Double Indemnity are among my fav films of all time. The chemistry between Barbara and McMurray was undeniable Could you believe they tried to remake this in the 70s? Some films are meant to never be remade, dammit.

charcas wrote:Did anyone catch Bigger Than Life last night? A 1956 melodrama directed by Nicholas Ray starring James Mason as a man who is presribed Cortisone, soon becomes addicted, and then becomes psychotic? Near the end he's reading the Bible--the story of Abraham preparing to sacrifice his son Issac. Mason decides he must kill his own son. Mason' wife points out that God stopped Abraham from going through with the sacrifice. Mason replied "God was wrong" and locks his wife in the closet. Very creepy movie....one has to wonder if Stephen King saw it while growing up as the story has similarities with The Shining.

I'm not sure I would call Strait Jacket a "great" film, but it sure is entertaining. Joan Crawford as an axe murderess released from the insane asylum.
