All the names and such sort of blended together - the Dany story should have been 2/3 the length or less if GRRM wasn't going to actually finish this part of the story in ADWD. Theon, Davos, and Bran were the best

I thought we were done with this guy, but he had a POV moved from ADWD to TWOW so he is still a main character. maybe I'm missing something but I can't figure any reason why we should care about him and the iron islands now that the other iron born who we are forced to try to care about aren't even there.

What I really want to see is when Dany takes down the slave trade and pretends to trade a dragon for the unsullied. I have read and reread that part and if they do it right it will be an awesome scene. They did such a great job in the first showing of the dragons that hopefully they will do this justice as well.

I know that I never realized that the armorer who was Robert's bastard was the same guy traveling with Arya until I saw it on the show and then it was a smack the forehead moment! As for Joffrey, I want to see him suffer and I agree I think it was the Queen of Thorns.

Hopefully she can also act! I feel like Martin was just dragging out the Dany story, probably thought to himself, well hell, I have as many pages and years as I want to show that it takes time to become a leader, and mistakes, so I will just indulge myself with the drudgery of all of that. Why not? I can do what I want, people accept any kind of shit from me at this point, since I wrote a good beginning. He seriously needs a better editor. The producers of this show will probably fill that task for the film version, provided he actually manages to give them an ending at some point. They can cut through the slog of his indulgence and edit together a cohesive, compelling story. I know he has millions of fans, and I am certainly one of them (in a way, I like SOME of what he does, and get really pissed at other things, his ego is palpable and to me, unattractive.) However, he's writing this almost like a soap, drag it out as long as possible, throw in as much minutia as possible even if it has nothing to do with plot, and only a bit to do with character development. I feel like lots of it is simply that he loves learning and researching stuff, then feels compelled to throw it all in, whether or not it's good for his narrative. Add in the desire for red-herrings? We get books like the last two.

In Clash, we hear about ser Rodrik attacking Reek and Ramsay and killing Reek, thinking it is Ramsay as Ramsay changed outfit with Reek to save himself. Ramsay (everyone else thinking this is Reek) gets prisoned in Winterfell and when Theon attacks and conquers the castle, he vows to serve Theon (who also thinks this is Reek, the servant) and they hatch the plan of flaying two children to make people think this is the Starks. We find about Bran and Rickon surviving in the last chapter of Clash.

Remove this ad Nope, I just spent quite a bit of time reading and hating on Theon meanwhile watching the first season of Thrones and trying to see any hint that he was going to do something so monstrous other than his usual snarky personality and smirking. And it was a finally a great relief to find Bran and Rickon were still alive once I found out. THEN I was just commenting without transitioning very well evidently, that it certainly made it easier to hate Theon and not care later when he was treated badly as Reek. Because A he made me wonder if the kids were dead and of course their families were grief stricken and as yet still are. And B because he still killed two innocent little kids because he needed to make them look like Bran and Rickon which was disgusting in it's own right. All just to save face really. Didn't want to be shamed that he let them escape.
