But Upolu could have easily thought that Savaii thought that they would vote for Jim or Keith, via your rationale, and vote for Whitney instead. So there is no optimal solution here, Upolu casts a vote and Ozzy has to guess. Jim, Keith, and Whitney all have a 1/3 of it being them (1/4 if they counted Cochran as well).

No. It was not just on Upolu's mind. Saivaii thought the same. Which is why Saivaii gave HII to Whitney precisely because they thought that Upolu wanted Jim and Keith (the stronger 2) to be one of the people to pick a purple rock. But it is doesn't make sense. (I'm leaving Cochran out of the discussion because it's obvious Upolu doesn't want to take Cochran out at the moment.) Out of the 3 of them (Jim, Keith, Whitney) , why would you not want to use your HII to protect one of your 2 stronger players during the first round, but instead give it to Whitney?? Jim probably thought about what happened in HvV with the whole Jerri/Sandra/Parvati two idol extravaganza give-away, but he forgets Coach wasn't around to see that or the tribe just simply didn't think of that and went for a more obvious target of Keith. Now, now that the idol has been played, does that mean it will be replanted? I don't think it will be, since Rob held onto it last season and that seemed to be the only one in existence, but there were multiple ones in Heroes and Villains, so idk.

And they took Cochran, the very person they'd been huge douchebags to the entire season, the person they ostracized and told to his face was the next to go more than once...and supported the plan to make HIM the "double agent". Thought it was an awesome idea to send the guy they'd been bullying over to the enemy to make friends with them in the middle of a deadlock situation. Whitney would have been a far better choice for this. I'm not sure it was the best move for Cochran to flip but I'm glad he did it. These morons deserve what they get for thinking this was a good plan. It's not entirely Ozzy's fault but it sure as hell is Savaii's.
