Most of it is all set up for the rest of the season so I don't mind. Things will pay off later. It's a good start and has some great character actors, which should prove interesting as they interact and develop. They might have tried a little too hard to make the mysterious stranger protagonist likable by saying he released his slaves before the war. And I would not think finding out who the sargeant was would be all that difficult if he asks around.

Like the extra time spent at the end of this past episode, as she watched him ride off, watching, and riding ... I mean end it!! This is not a movie where you watch someone ride off into the sunset. Just cut to the next scene or go to commercial ... that part bored me.

Kudos for not making the entire episode be about him getting back without a horse. Juss sayin... I love that Mrs. Bell is holding the maps. What does she plan to do? Can't wait to find out! Preacher man is not all good guy... hmmm... Guess it doesn't matter that Bohannan pitched the idea of Durant hiring him because he would be a good man for the job and he isn't? Its like he could care less about the job. I like that he gave away the $10 to a young whore... not that she will change her life with it but I liked that he did that. I like Indian Slave girl.

The more shitty renewed shows like this AMC has on its roster, the less incentive they will have to seek out legitimately daring, high-quality new programming. I'm really losing my faith that this network will ever pick up a new series that can stand up to HBO's best. Overall, HBO crushed AMC this year, which isn't something that I could say from 2008 to 2010, when it appeared that HBO had lost its identity.
