Has Pan Am been grounded for good? Depends who you ask. ABC is denying widespread reports that it has axed the struggling freshman drama. The buzz picked up steam Tuesday shortly after one of the show’s stars, Karine Vanasse (aka Frenchwoman Colette), tweeted that the cast and crew “received THE call [that] Pan Am is only coming back for one more episode after Christmas. But up to the end, we’ll give it our all.” In a statement, an ABC rep tells TVLine that the show remains in contention for next fall. “Pan Am will wrap production on its first season in early January after completion of its 14th episode. A decision about about a second season will be made in May.” Earlier this month, ABC announced that new comedy GCB would assume Pan Am‘s Sunday at 10 pm timeslot beginning in March.

But up to the end, we'll give it our all!” Vanasse, who plays the French stewardess Colette on the show, tweeted yesterday. ABC immediately responded to the tweet in a statement, saying the show has not been canceled: Nothing has changed. We are not canceling Pan Am. We are still in production and will continue to be in production finishing the original 13 episodes plus one more additional one. We have one more original episode this coming week, Dec. 4 and then will return in January with new episodes, airing all of them. Pan Am is still in contention for next season. Later, Vanasse backtracked, tweeting that the whole thing was just a misunderstanding. “Sorry for the confusion #PanAmfans; We still have 5 episodes to air until February," she wrote. Despite ABC's statement, Pan Am's future still looks bleak. The show is completely absent from the network's midseason schedule and has lost nearly half its viewership since debuting in September, down to 5.6 million viewers from 11 million. For now, the show is indeed still in production and can be found filming on Prospect Ave in Brooklyn. Meanwhile, on further reflection, I thought it was interesting how co-pilot guy hated to be trapped with a piot telling WW2 stories. Show some respect you moron. Still, P-38's were out of favor in the European theater by the time the Allied ground war against the Nazis was rolling across France. The guy must've sucked.

I spoke with my dad who grew up at that time and he said people were really tired of all the war stories and wanted their own lives rather than hearing about the past. I think someone has truly done research into attitudes of this time period.

I just love the actress and basically every scene she's in. ~ Maggie bugs now since they went this LIB'RUL POLITICKIN' route. I much preferred her as a rebellious womyn fighting marmish propriety ladies at PanAm rather than some libtardo communista. ~ I can't get too invested in Collette/Dean because -- meh. I wish Collette was a coquettish yet ravenous flying sex monster with a heart of gold, like the first two eps. ~ I am really growing into Laura/Ted's story <3 But really, Kate's the only shining light in this show for me when it isn't GLAMOROUS PERIOD FASHIONS and those hott blue outfits. <3 And I'm sure if I worked on this show and was reading my comment I'd go apeshit considering the world was against Kate and her spy stories and CRAVED more Collette and now I could care less about her and flove Kate. Oh wellerz. I still desperately hope there's an S2 because I could see this having some staying power if they could just get their shit together.

I'm amazed at how much I'm liking the Cold War CIA angle -- when the show first started, I was afraid it would be too much of sideshow, but it's now wonderfully integrated into the fabric of the series. I'm still loving Maggie, but are really supposed to believe that a Pan Am stewardness suddenly wants to chuck it all to become a rabble-rousing journalist? Whose very first article trashes a first class passenger, regardless of having boinked him? Poor Collette. She certainly took that lying down. I loved Laura and her "but I'm not one of them" surprise. Yikes on the preview with the rich chick...

Poor Colette, but I was disappointed that she didn't fight for him at all.
