I don't think Richard is going away as a character, so that means the writers must give him things to do. An obvious thing would be to avenge Angela's death. Manny only came out of hiding and to Atlantic City at Nucky's request to "meet" with Jimmy. The reason Richard didn't go with Jimmy to (what Richard must have assumed) kill Manny was that Jimmy insisted that he stay. Jimmy said. "This is something I gotta do myself." Recall that Richard offered to go with Jimmy. He said, "I'll go with you." He wanted to kill Manny himself. He told Jimmy "I could take care of this for you." Jimmy wouldn't let him go. Keep in mind that Nucky was also disgusted with Manny over Angela's death. We'll see what happens next season.

Nucky: You know something I don't? Manny: The question answers itself. I loved that. It was just beautful. But then, as Nucky was leaving, Manny said: Manny: He's on his way to jail and this is the look he gives me? Eli: He ain't in jail yet. Manny: He will come to nothing in this. It is this last line that troubles me. I couldn't quite hear it and make it out. Did Manny say "He will come to nothing in this."? or "He will be nothing in all of this" or "He will do nothing in all of this." Did anyone hear it clearly? Thom Thom, there may have been other problems and other reasons why Richard couldn't kill Manny sooner. I'm not even certain that James was killed in A.C. That statue looked familiar to me. Any chance it was the statue of Lou Costello? in Patterson, NJ? Perhaps they were in Philly at the time? But I'm guessing it was AC because the following morning, Margaret asks Nucky where he was the previous evening and that conversation seems to indicate he wasn't out for long and probably killed James in AC. There's no way to be certain what Manny did following the killing. So, there are just too many unknowns. It would seem too difficult to know whether Richard could have killed Manny soon after. If Richard does kill Manny next season, I just hope the story will explain why he didn't kill him soon after James' murder. But if anyone knows, I'd be curious where the Lou Costello statue is located and how far it is from AC and Philly. Here is what I found in Google (from Ask.com): Lou Costello Statue - Address:Ellison St., Paterson, NJ - Directions:Cianci Park, at the corner of Cianci and Ellison Sts, only a couple of blocks from The Great Falls. One of Jersey's many cultural statesman is honored by his hometown, Paterson, NJ. Titled "Lou's On First," a life-size bronze of comedy genius Lou Costello carries a bat and wears his trademark derby, now splattered with bird shit. According to the following map, Patterson, NJ and the statue is about 100 miles north of A.C. http://www.roadsideamerica.com/map/2164 But, the location of Darmody's murder is still not clear to me. It's an interesting little mystery but one that could probably be solved. Especially by anyone who knows the area. The WW1 memorial is on California & Ventnor ave, not to be confused with the AC monument on Albany ave... The show's creator said they plan to start season 3 about a year later, which coincides with Eli's prison term, so I assume they start with him getting out of prison or about to do so. That's a bit long for Richard to have waited to get revenge. Also a long time for Gillian to not have hooked up with a new man, so my out of nowhere guess is that she'll have attached herself to some new player now that she's a woman of means, and Richard will either be her underling or the new man's. She's really the only character he could still be attached to, right? Maybe as some sort of surrogate guardian to Jimmy's kid. A year gives Nucky time to tangle with Father Whoever over the highway, Margaret to have become used to being Mrs. Thompson, Polio Girl to walk, Eli out of jail, Margaret and Owen to be in love (though that's a LONG time for Katie to hold a grudge) and Van Alden to be firmly in Capone's orbit....somehow.

First, we should assume that Richard knows that Manny killed Angela. After all, he wanted to go with Jimmy to "meet" with Manny and he voiced a desire to "take care of this" by himself. It's unlikely that Richard and Jimmy neglected to talk about Angela and come to a conclusion about the person who shot her to death. Second, Nucky has no way of knowing Richard's affection for Angela. Even Jimmy wasn't aware of the high regard Richard had for Angela.
