Everything fit perfectly for Mad Max, dystopian in a sparse sort of way, sort of stylish, low budget and very violent, but also naturalistic. There's one of my favourite sci-fi ever ever and it also happens to be from down under, or close by, New Zealand, called The Quiet Earth <3, very naturalistic too though more post-apocalyptic instead of dystopian. Oh, and Mel was very good looking in Mad Max! I watched The Misfits because you mentioned it, and it happened to be on the TCM listing, thanks for recommendation.

The Oscar and Emmy show producers could learn a thing or two from them on how to put together a great memorial. Nice touch at the end. And I had no idea Kevin Jarre (screenwriter of Glory and Tombstone) died earlier this year.

I think the first time I saw it, I did not love it. I'm also no Kate fan (she, like Streep in her early career, always screamed "ac-TRESS" more than I like); but this film ALWAYS brings a smile to my face, and probably was among the most endearing vehicles for Cary Grant ever.

One of the best parts of Bringing Up Baby is Asta, the terrier from The Thin Man, playing George. That dog stole every scene he was in!

I've always loved Hepburn, I think she's one of best actresses ever, but she has a strong presence...I think kind of like Jack Nicholson, she always imbues a bit of herself in whatever role she does, more than most actresses anyway. cginspace wrote: It's actually one of my favorite movies of the 80s. It just seems stagey and forced. Hepburn I can take in small doses but she has a tendency to annoy me, for the same reasons cg mentioned. I think "On Golden Pond" is probably my favorite performance of hers because she's more mellow and vulnerable in it. But I do like BUB, too. btw, Drew Barrymore is going to replace Alec Baldwin as co-host of The Essentials, beginning this spring.

And I only just realized that my favorite interim host, Ms. Douglas, is Melvyn's... grandaughter, I think? That explains a lot. I noticed she had a lot of knowledge about old Hollywood, and figured it was due to her former relationship with Scorcese. That probably has something to do with it, too; but this new info adds to the equation. Bringing Up Baby is one that just pleases me more every time I see it. The scenes of Grant in the robe just tickle me, and I could not even tell you why. Maybe I'm just a late-blooming fan of screwball comedy.

I remember my cat was transfixed by the rising sun in the beginning...she seriously wouldn't take her eyes off it.

She was a former actress (she starred in the original "She') who later became a member of Congress. She ran against Richard Nixon for the Senate. What a great film (Cukor was a great director when he was firing on all cylinders), with amazing dialog. Now is Holiday. Then comes the weird ass Sylvia Scarlett, with a gay Cary Grant. (I kid,but you'll see what I mean if you watch).

The story is amusing and the characters come to life, complete with an amazing farm house, horse drawn sleighs and enough schmaltz to make it a fun flick. Also, I do not like Barbara Stanwyck, but she is tolerable in this movie. It;s on demand on TCM now!

One of my old movie friends just told me Stanwyck is her favorite actress ever, while Crawford was her favorite movie star. I think Rosalind Russell is probably my favorite movie star. Still reeling from Philadelphia Story. It is one of those movies I always forget how much I love.
