I've been nerding out and over the past couple months have accumulated about 30,000 words of gameplay analysis writeups of various players.
My approach to analyzing gameplay is
1) Ask how many holes there were in a given player's endgame.
Great players have endgames that still result in a win regardless of most immunity, twist, or jury speech-related contingencies.
For instance: Ethan was likely going to win Survivor: Africa after he made it to F4 regardless of which players won immunity; Tina had the same setup at F3, Earl had a social game that was good enough to respond to being screwed by the haves/have nots; Rob (All-Stars) on the other hand didn't have enough flexibility to respond to the Amber twist, which screwed his FTC by making everyone super bitter; Rob (Redemption Island) was going to win regardless of what happened at tribal council; Todd (China) and Natalie (Samoa) were actually LOSING coming into FTC, et al, et al.
2) Ask how uncommon a given player's level of likeability, strategy, physical game, and/or leadership is compared to the 300+ other survivors, depending on which quality they depended on.
You can play elite games just by being likeable (Ethan), by making someone fall in love with you (Amber), single-handedly dominating pre-merge (Tom), by being a extremely strategic leader (Heidik, Rob), or by being a mix of all three (Cirie). I don't at all by into the idea that Survivor is a third physical, a third strategic, a third social, as I think each player's endgame is fueled by completely different skills.
Most people can make an alliance, but not many people can create the buddy system, almost single-handedly rape a young athletic tribe, or get players to like you so much that they completely throw away their games for you.
This is obviously insanely subjective, but this folder is full of the smartest survivor fans in the universe, so I hope you'll help me by critiquing what I have to say and pointing out the holes in my writeups.
I'll post the first one and ask you guys what you think I've said that is not very representative of the actual facts of the situation.
ETA: All of these will be tl;dr. I'll try to arrange the text to be more aesthetically pleasing, but if you don't like it, fuck you, and fuck your cigarettes!
please don't hesitate to quote and criticize stuff from the early pages!!!
I'm releasing a steady trickle of all of the stuff i've compiled at about one writeup a page so that there isn't any sensory overload and there is time to consider everything, but i want a thorough analysis of all of the players and would love to hear analysis of the earlier games posted at any time the thoughts come to you, even if it is "late."
Posted games (in order of show appearance):
1) Richard (Borneo) - p1
2) Tina (Australia) - p1
