Remove this ad Yeah Fairplay was a legitimately great player who came damn close to winning and who specifically went onto the show to make a mockery out of it. His exact quote before the game was that he wanted to make a name for himself by being the guy who raped reality TV. He went into the show intending to draw heel heat and he did it. Russell is the only person who came anywhere close to what he tried to do, but Russell's problem is that he turned into a spunky underdog along the way and wound up getting America to root for him. Although again there is a huge fundamental difference between Fairplay and Russell in that Russell went onto the show intending to show everyone how it was done and to become the greatest player of all time, and Fairplay went onto the show intending to break it.

His downfall was getting his ass handed to him in the final challenge by Lil, of all people. Fairplay was also completely bitch slapped by Sandra. The one true villain to appear on Survivor was Rob Mariano on All Stars. He went on the season to humiliate Survivor legends like Colby, Ethan, Rob Cesternino and Big Tom and he succeeded. He also ruthlessly backstabbed his friend Lex and brought his former castmate Kathy to tears. The All Stars Reunion was by far the most acrimonious in the history of Survivor.

Posts: 1485 (12/23/11 06:15 PM) Reply Quote More Recent Posts	i think there are a lot more anti-heroes than villains in survivor. rob c in amazon is one of the few legitimate villains, because he was "willing to betray his friends" against jenna's refusal to "disregard personal relationships to get the win," but jenna was not much of heroine because she was too much of a bitch. they actually really toned down her interactions with christy as much as a they could

And that is a good point about Rob M in All Stars. Although it's hard to say he was really that big of a villain since the season ended with him proposing to his girlfriend.

Amusingly, Boston Rob wasn't even mentioned in it because the romance with Amber pretty much invalidated all of the awful stuff he did in All-Stars in the public's eyes.

First of all, Rob ABSOLUTELY came in with the intent of humiliating people. Watch his confessionals and his interactions with others - he hated that Ethan and Colby specifically were bigger than he was, and he wanted to bring them down. Remember "he ain't as tough as you think, ladies" about Colby, calling Ethan "pretty boy" incessantly, etc? At the time of All-Stars, Boston Rob was a HUGE villain. Only on Sucks was Lex vilified, and I still don't quite understand why - sure he was a sore loser, but I've always taken his side more than Rob's. Mario, I know you've talked about this a little bit before. In my recollection, as it was airing, Rob was the villain of the entire season, and it's only the institutional memory of Sucks that makes people think of Rob as the hero and Lex as the villain these days (even if Sucks hated Lex at the time), but I'd love to get your take on things.

I'm just saying he wasn't coming in because he had to "put Colby and Ethan" down a peg. He was concentrating on winning and would do whatever Lex isn't even a villain, he's just a hypocritical twatwaffle ^_^
