I feel that some people have extremely high standards. Nothing is 100% efficient. Edgic isn't supposed to be mastered into a formulae where we will always get the winner. We will get the winner wrong plenty more times to come. Editing itself is very subjective. The whole Edgic agenda is influenced by massive amounts of subjectivity. Constantly redefining "rules" is not going to do us any favours. Everyone, besides the statistical Edgicers, are going to do Edgic the same way they've always done it because that's what they enjoy the most. We all participate voluntarily because we enjoy our own personal process of seeing the edit and hoping we get it right. Each season teaches us something new, i.e. the direction editors are going in editing their winners. For example, Coach support mostly rooted from seeing how Rob M. was edited. Had Rob lost last season, there would not likely have been that support.

Sophie's edit was unique because she is the first winner to lack any real "story" until the very end. What should have tipped us off?

-Sophie's Ep2 confessional is very bizarre. Her confessional is highly manipulated when she says that Brandon targeting Mikayla worries her because she's also a strong woman and that may make her a target of Brandon. This was highly unnecessary and kept Sophie on my radar, until a few episodes later I decided she was a relentless narrator--and she was.

-Why not give her the UTR female treatment? She apparently wasn't liked by most people, she was in the end game with many big male characters, yet she didn't get the Rick edit, nor the Natalie T. edit, nor the Darrah edit. As we have seen before (e.g. Susie), runner-ups who almost win do not need much of an edit, so her "getting something" couldn't have been rationalized as an explanation for why she got a decent edit: because she gets votes.

Sophie reminds us (not "teaches" us) that what the editors choose NOT to do with someone's edit is very important. It's important to rationalize everyone's edit. People who get ignored unless otherwise being important to the story on an episode-by-episode level are not winners (i.e. Rick, Edna, to some degree even Dawn)

I think most people know how editing and survivor work by now. Rewriting rules isn't going to change, at least in my opinion, how I do edgic. I'm not going to read them and follow them by the bible. That's not fun for me. Edgic is looking at the edit and analyzing it to find the winner using tools we've created. I find the statistical aspect of Edgic very boring and honestly rather pointless. The whole "types" idea is a good way to look at things, but I think the situation/reality of each individual season is more important, i.e:

Coach wins S23.
-Sophie should be ignored more
-Considering the religious audience, Coach's religiousness should be portrayed more positively
-Upolu should be more rootable in challenges than Savaii, given Coach was the leader, e.g. Ometepe was more liked than Zapatera

Rob M doesn't win S22.
-Give someone SOMETHING; the holes in Andreas edit past the merge were far too great for anyone else to be close to having a decent edit to Rob M

Depending on their in-game circumstance:
Female underdog winner: tone her down, keep her positive, associate her to big positive players
Male underdog winner: go crazy
Male dominant winner: show him as strategically competent, introduce obsticles
Female dominant winner: toneless, MOR/UTR but content is narrative/CP or tinged with positivity, but in small doses/slight

Examples:

Sandra was in a dominant alliance most of the game in S7 until she became a minority after Rupert left: MOR with bits of CP, tinged positive, and turns quite positive at the end while her Rupert association becomes stronger at this point

Natalie W. was in an dominant alliance pre-merge, and was an underdog post merge; her edit pre-merge was UTR with bits of CP and turns positive at the merge and associated with Russell who, at this point, was a more positive force than the Galu bitches

JT was very safe the first few episodes on Jalapao, and was MOR with some positivity, then became an underdog mid-game (end at Jalapao, start at merge) and edits went crazy CPPP, then became dominant in the last half and turned competent CP with obstacles (Stephen plotting against him)

Jenna and Parvati were in safe spots most of the game, being MOR with tinges of CP and sheltered from their natural negativity or shielded by bigger negativity (Natalie B. turns evil once negative Ozzy is gone; Heidi and Shawna's negativity overpowers Jenna's)

Sophie was safe the entire game, so she was MOR with tinges of CP and sheltered from damning negativity (Albert=Lazy, Coach=hypocritical and religiously disgusting)

Vecepia is in control pre-merge, is sheltered from Rob/Sean/Sarah negativity but is MOR/CPish, post merge becomes underdog and UTR(P)



I'm not sure if it makes much sense, but that's how I see it sorta.
