It wouldn't be surprising to see the Olympic athlete go far. She obviously has to have some kind of discipline or she never would have been in the Olympics.

Emily wasn't in the olympics.  It's confusing the way they present it.  She participated in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting, which means you go to weightlifting meets that do the 2 "olympic" lifts: the snatch and the clean-and-jerk.  (This contrasts with Powerlifting which does the deadlift, back squat and bench press.  Powerlifting is not in the olympics.)  Now, they call it the olympic lifts, but that doesn't mean that someone who says they did olympic weightlifting was in the actual olympics.  So you can see where the confusion would arise.

If you look at her bio on TBL site, she participated in the Junior Olympics and the Empire State Games (kind of the NY state amateur olympics), and it says she won medals in her weight class in both of those endeavors.  But even that doesn't mean she was exceptional at it, because 15 years ago when she would have been doing this, there weren't a whole lot of American girls competing in this sport, and she may not have had to lift very much total to win a bronze medal.

Basically I think the editors are choosing to use this confusion to make it seem like she was more of an athlete than she was, and at least give her some kind of a storyline.
