It's not a horror series or a mindless video game. There are no vampires, zombies, cannibals, wizards, ect. It's not about the Apocalypse, it's about a post-USOA North America called Panem (whether or not Canookia is included I don't know). While Kat and her family did have hard times after her father's death, she was able to put foot on the table through hunting and bartering plus additional food through the extra credits of having her name in the Hunger Games pool additional times. In the first book, District 12 had a healthy black market due to the lackadaisical mayor at that time. Other districts, especially Rues were far more oppressed and hungry.

But after reading the first two (I start the third tomorrow) it's like Battle Royale taken to the next level and all I can keep thinking is that this is a series for kids?? Can't wait for the movie!

I know a lot of people were bitching that it wasn't as good....and really the first book is the best. But they are all darn good books. I loved the way it ended. <3 Anyhow bring on the motherfucking movie! #cantwait

Not at all what I was expecting. Wasn't too stoked about the epilogue, but loved how the whole story progressed. This movie is going to be insane. Love the cast for Effie and Katniss. Not too thrilled about who's playing Haymitch. I can't wait to see the whole series on the big screen!
