I speak Hindi and have seen some episodes of Survivor India...its kind of lame, for sure a show my mom likes but its too Kumbia, lets be as nice as possible to not dishonor our families esque...I know I'll get flamed for this, but I put out my video for this past casting call and also went to an open casting call in Detroit (I'm from Chicago)...hopefully I could be the first Indian on Survivor...

So are there areas or cultures that are more americanized in terms of not caring about shaming the family when playing a strategic game?  Is Kumbia a place?  Are a majority of the network Kumbian?

  

I've watched some of the Indian equivalents of American reality shows with my mom (Master Chef, Top Chef, Survivor, Indian Idol) and while they do play up the not shaming my family and being buddy buddy with everybody card, they all inevitably break down and eventually become catty towards each other.  Most of India is americanized in a lot of ways but not wanting to shame the family and caring a lot about what your family thinks is one of the biggest things about Indian culture that is pretty much universal.  But like I said, in these reality shows the conniving side comes out, it just comes out later than it does on the american reality shows...

Since you can translate Hindi, would you create english subtitles for the Survivor India videos on youtube for the rest of us?  You can do this in a text file that just has time stamps and the subtitles (.srt file format).  An example of the .srt format is shown in SubRip

The concept that the family collective trumps individual rights is very dangerous in families that have an abusive family member.  If there is some family member that is traumatizing and abusing you, you should not hesitate to cut them out of your life.  Kids that are beat by family members almost always grow up to repeat the cycle of violence.
