Updated TV Ratings Sunday: 'Academy Awards' Preliminary Ratings Close To Last Year, 'Amazing Race,' 'Celebrity Apprentice' At Series Lows Categories: Academy Awards,Featured,TV Ratings: Nielsen Overnight TV Show Ratings Written By Bill Gorman February 27th, 2012 Scoreboard Adults 18-49: Rating/Share8.8/21*1.4/31.3/31.3/30.9/2 Adults 18-34: Rating/Share7.2/20*0.8/21.4/40.8/20.9/3 Total Viewers (million)30.540* Due to the nature of live programming the ratings for ABC (7-8:30pm Oscars Red Carpet, 8:30-11pm 84th Academy Awards) are likely to be significantly adjusted in the final ratings. The fast affiliate preliminary ratings for The 84th Academy Awards scored a 10.2 adults 18-49 rating which were down 4% vs. last year's preliminary 10.6 adults 18-49 rating. The preliminary viewership of 34.364 million was up 3% vs. last year's preliminary 33.469 million viewers. Last year's preliminary ratings were adjusted up in the finals to an 11.8 adults 18-49 rating and 37.919 million viewers, so this year's final ratings are likely to be close to last year's. Our polled readers expected a decline in viewership. I expect time zone adjusted ratings sometime after 3PM Eastern time and will post them here after I see them. Earlier in the evening, the preliminary ratings for Oscar's Red Carpet were up and down vs. last year's prelminaries (they're rated as three separate shows): Oscar Red Carpet - Live 1 (S): 4.8 adults 18-49 rating, up +9% from last year's fast nationals (4.4 rating on 2/27/11)Oscar Red Carpet - Live 2 (S): 6.2 rating, up +5% from last year's fast nationals 5.9 rating.Oscar Red Carpet - Live 3 (S): 8.1 rating, down -11% from last year's fast nationals 9.1 rating. In non-statuette television, The Amazing Race's 2.1 adults 18-49 rating matched its series low, and was down 25% from its premiere's 2.8 rating last week. I have conflicting information on whether 60 Minutes was an original episode or not, regardless, its 1.3 adults 18-49 rating means I'm not the only one who may have been confused. NBC's The Celebrity Apprentice scored a series low 1.8 adults 18-49 rating, tumbling 31% vs. a 2.6 rating for last week's premiere. Zzunk wrote: Just a little more detail to give some perspective. TAR did really well up against a sporting event. Hopefully TAR producers will work with CBS to not schedule TAR when there are Sunday night sporting events -- it dillutes the significance of the ratings.
