Eventually. He was enough of a target already that they would have eventually attempted a blindside. And if it was a blindside, he wouldn't have known he needed to play it. The fact that everyone knew just made them try it sooner rather than later.
With the Yul-style idol, it made sense to tell everyone. But with the new idol rules, agreed - KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT!
