When has she tried to guilt-trip someone as a strategy before? Besides, when doing it to Erik, her real motive was not to get him to switch his vote, but to get him to think that she thought she was going home (thus concealing the fact that she had the HII). Since she definitely accomplished her motive, I think it's safe to say that it worked.
