I think this one was easy.
1. COOK. Simon was right. People, David
Cook is the only one of the three who thinks through the songs and tries to express what they mean, in his interpretation thereof, and has the voice and the
versatility to pull it off. He's the anti-Johnny One Volume \ One Style (i.e. Archuleta). He's the anti-homogenizer. He sings with more than one volume and more than one tempo,
at the right times demanded by the songs. In Round #1, he was stuck with a vastly overrated song - Roberta Flack was a
pox on mid-70s Top 40 Charts \ Grammy awards, sorry! - and brought something fresh to it. I love it when David plays
the guitar, and in Round #2 he actually played it, and did not just use it as a prop (as he has in some weeks). In a music
contest, I'll take a guitar over a chair as a prop any day. And in Round #3, I much preferred his singing to Steven Tyler's. (For one thing, as was the case with his Billie Jean, you can actually understand the
words.) He neither under-emotes nor over-emotes. He's the real deal and a
deserving winner.
2. SYESHA. I agree that she
was treated a bit too harshly, but the judges have seen through her act. That's right, she's primarily an
actress, albeit an actress with a good set of pipes (and other things). For Syesha to win American Idol would be
very much like Parvati winning the recent Survivor. She's Haley Scarnato with better legs and a better
voice. I praise her for getting this far, and for improving. She deserves to
make the final 2 over you know who. But no more than that.
3. ARCHULETA. I don't think the producers or Paula did him a favor in song
choice, but David Archuleta hurt himself more than they ever did by his own choice. Zzzzzzz.
I'm going to vote for the first time this year, to make sure David Cook does not fall behind the Archuleta
juggernaut (as I fear). I'll trust the anti-judges backlash to pull Syesha through.
Peace, as always.
