Judges' pick round (and surprisingly, the judges did a much better job of picking songs than the contestants did):
1. Cookie. By far the best performance of the night. Maybe he does need Simon picking his songs. He definitely is at his best when he's being challenged. Also showed once again that Cookie can handle a melodic ballad as well as anyone.
2. Archie. Nice vocal. Nothing more. Kind of a softball pick from the drug-addled whore.
3. Syesha. Randy's pick gave her a golden opportunity to prove that she can be current and soulful with a song that everyone in the audience knows. And as usual, she flubbed it. It was meh at best. But she looked incredible all night, and never better than during this song.
Trainwreck round:
1. Syesha. For better or worse, this is what she does best--and it's why her future is in musical theater, not the recording industry.
2. Archie. Nice vocal. Nothing more. Even lame-ass Chris Brown is 2 urban for U, boo.
3. Cookie. He's always at his worse covering songs that he really likes. This came off as a rote, by-the-number alterna-bleating performance that reminded me way too much of Egghead. Ugh.
Final trainwreck round:
1. Archie. Nice vocal. Nothing more.
2. Cookie. I give him points for being creative with the arrangement again--but this one didn't work for me, dawg. The string ensemble was just a novelty, and the ending was horrendously shrill. (Note to Cookie: The band's guitar player is trying to sabotage you. Do NOT give him a solo next week.)
3. Syesha. Trying to prove that she could be an uptempo modern R&B diva a la Beyonce/Rhianna. And she proved that indeed she can't. Totally disposable.
Overall:
1. Cookie. On the strength of Simon's pick alone and despite two other failed performances.
2. Archie. Nice vocals. Nothing more.
3. Syesha. If anyone else leaves tonight, it will be the most. shocking. boot. ever.
