I was a fan of Survivor before episode 1 ever aired. I heard about it because Howard Stern used to talk about what a crazy idea for a show it was going to be ("People are going to die on TV! They are going to starve to death! It's unbelievable!") He hyped it for weeks and weeks before it ever aired on TV, so I was sufficiently excited to sit down and watch the premiere. Although I do remember being sort of disappointed with episode 1. I didn't like the fact that the players were going to be voted off of the island. For some reason in the preshow materials they didn't mention that fact. They let people believe it was going to be more of a survival of the fittest. So I was a little disappointed about the whole "voting off" aspect of the show, and I also thought the host (Jeff Probst) was a joke. In fact I remember reading a bunch of Survivor message boards after episodes 1 and 2 and the thing most people hated about the show was the host. People used to trash Probst pretty mercilessly.

I also remember liking Stacey because she had big tits.

I wasn't super hooked by Survivor until like the third or fourth episode. In fact I don't think most people were until I'd say episode five. That was the point in time when people really started to talk about it. Up through the first few episodes, it was way too predictable (the small and the weak and the old get picked off). Starting in episode five, with Dirk's dismissal, there was some actual strategy involved.

And yes as one poster pointed out, this was back when it was just known as "Survivor", not Borneo. And then Australia was known as "the sequel to Survivor." I don't think they started rewriting history and calling season 1 "Borneo" until fairly recently. ..

Wasnt that at the time the dvd came out?
