I didn't think Africa was all that bad. A few things that I always remember about that season right off the bat:
~ absolutely HATING the Samburu mall-rat alliance. I was thrilled to see both Silas & Lindsay gone early, one right after the other. Silas' ouster remains to this day one of my favorite tribal councils ever, and I loved Lindsay's panicked reaction at the following reward challenge ("Silas is gone! Silas is gone!"). I couldn't stop laughing at her final tribal council - Brandon & Kim P's reactions when they realized what was going down, Lindsay crying and getting up to leave before Jeff had even finished reading the votes. Loved it! I thought Kim P. redeemed herself slightly later on in the season, but was still thrilled to see dumb-ass Brandon go.
~ being totally shocked by the tribal switch-up, since at the time we had no reason to really expect that. Remember the over-blown promo for that episode?
~ some interesting challenges, although I remember getting pretty bored with them by the end of the season. Like the final 5 challenge where they had to do aspects of all the previous challenges? I remember thinking to myself "Wow, T-Bird and Kim J. should have just stayed back at camp boiling water or something."
~ this is the first of only 4 "Survivor" seasons where I went into the finale being pretty indifferent towards everyone who was in the finals.
~ this is the only season ever where EVERY player I picked to go far pre-season ended up being gone before the jury (I expected Jessie, Lindsay, Silas & Clarence to go far with Clarence being a likely winner - boy was I wrong!).
I really wish they would have instituted Micronesia's "no winners" rule for All-Stars (even though I know they NEVER would have held an All-Stars season without Hatch) because I think then we probably would have gotten T-Bird on there. I really liked Teresa, but she was essentially Tina Wesson 2.0 and with only 3 older female spots to fill on ASS, no way were they both gonna make it. Although I'd be willing to bet money that T-Bird would have been the replacement had Tina opted not to return, much like Helen from Thailand was probably the replacement for Kathy is she had opted out.
