It stands out to me because it seemed such an odd choice of music to be playing. An upbeat feel-good song is not what I expected to hear in the scary mysterious hatch. Actually didn't expect to hear music at all. And damn! There's that guy from the stadium. The whole thing worked for me. And I liked the song before I heard it on Lost anyway.
I'm not sure just any other song would have had the same effect, but no way to know of course.

The song that fit the mood/tone of the episode best IMO was the Willie Nelson song. Can't remember the eppy name though.
