Thanks for the research she124.
I used to have a house on an island in Minnesota and have to drive every day out to it during the winter on the ice. I know what I'm talking about.
You can bet that if there were any real danger- if this "ice road" was any more dangerous than any other land-based road-, that Canada wouldn't sanction it.
And, while we are on the subject, clear ice is BETTER ice than ice covered with snow for driving. Snow insulates the ice so it doesn't form as thick from the ambient air temperature- the heat from the warmer water below is held in by the snow, and ice formation is hampered. So you see a picture of a trucker driving over clear ice you can see through and you think "Ooooh! He's gonna fall through!"
No he's not.not.
And another thing- ice freezes first out in the open water, but melts first near the shoreline. So you can have open water near the shore and still have three feet of ice in the middle of the waterway and be very safe- though a camera shot of a truck driving on it might be scary.
So I stand by my assertion that this "reality" show is about as real as the "ghost hunters"- one of the most bullshit shows ever.
As far as that goes, I haven't seen one crabber with a major injury on the "deadliest catch". Cut fingers, a sprained ankle, but who gives a shit about that? You get those from working in restaurants too. Sure, guys die, but it's from greedy-ass moronic captains overloading their boats with crabbing cages. They show one guy washed off the boat, but he was hanging off the cages over the side of the ship. That's just stupid.
Why not have a "reality" show called "The Deadliest Zoo", where you would pay mentally retarded people to climb over the barriers and tease dangerous animals?
Thanks, I'm feeling better now!
