Seasons: Palau
Memorable Quote: "Bobby Jon, the tribe definitely hasnot spoken tonight, nonetheless it's time for you to go." -Probst
Here is another one on the list that quite a few people would last, and frankly, I'm not positive how it made it this high because Bobby Jon's departure might be the most unfair elimination in Survivor history.I actually had the onealot higher because I forgot what thisended up causing. When you think aboutthe late merge in Palau, theonly thingyou remember (or me at least)was the actual merge ofSteph joining a tribe of 8. Let's just say the reason this makes it this high is because I care so little about Palau that I forgot about it. This twist just happened to beat the dead horse of a season that I already wasn't a huge fan of (because of Wanda and Jonathan leaving and something else that you'll see very soon).
So for anyone who, like me, forgot about the consequences of having a late merge were, let me remind you. It's the final 10. Eight Korror remain (only Willard leaving due to the double boot), as well as two Ulong. Every season except Thailand and All Stars has had a merge at 10, so both tribes went to meet Probst expecting just that. Unfortunately, he lets them know that they'll be having a gross food challenge instead. I was rooting for Ulong to finally pull one off, but of course, they lost. As soon as that happens, a huge warning sign goes off in my head. How the fuck are they supposed to vote someone out? Well we find out that they are having a challenge to see who goes, the first in history. Neither has a chance to save themselves through the actual game of Survivor, but by who can make a fire faster. Steph obviously won, and BJ was sent packing. Probst even said by his quote that the tribe didn't speak, he was just screwed over.
Basically, this twist was 100% pointless (since Bobby Jon might have left first at the merge anyways), and I still don't understand why couldn't they merge. I think they just wanted to test out Steph living on her own to see if they could somehow include it as a later twist.
(Also, did anyone notice in the video that they got matches at the very start? I didn't know that, and it doesn't make Becky and Sundra seem that bad since they didn't get a chance to start with them.)
51. Palau double boot
Seasons: Palau
Memorable Quote: "Ibrehim's overstayed his welcome. He was meant to go last time, and by the grace of Allah he didn't go. Now myGod says he is today." -James
Angie's boot (and Willard's) being this low is 100% for personal reasons, and my hatred for Ibe. I couldn't rate it any lower though because the twist was at least somewhat fair on paper. Angie leaving early is mainly the reason I hate Palau since the only people who I could stand after she left were Bobby Jon and Gregg (and Steph sort of, but not that much, didn't buy into the storyline).
For people don't know/remember what happened, Korror won the reward challenge meaning they got to eat in front of Ulong's tribal council on account of the double boot. First off, Willard's boot is one of the main reasons I hate the double boot because he had no way to save himself. The tribe that wins reward should get a chance to win immunity, not the other way around. So he leaves, doesn't even get the food that he helped win. Ulong comes up, bashes the shit out of Ibe the whole episode after he screwed up the challenge and made them lose. But wait, there's more to the twist. Everyone on Korror will now get to vote for the person who will receive immunity on Ulong. Guess who gets the most votes? Fucking Ibe because the girls felt sorry for him having to go throughhis life. Steph and Angie panic and send their votes to Bobby Jon. Bobby Jon andJames vote for Angie whileIbe votes for James. Angie is sent packing in the tie because Ibe. Great. This was the first time since Borneo (not counting All Stars) where my favorite castaway leaves pre merge. Not a good feeling, but I know I'm not the only one who felt that way.
50. Fire Making Challenge
Seasons: Palau (twice), Exile Island, Cook Islands
Memorable Quote: "Wake up!" -Probst to the Cook Islands jury
Here's the fire making challenge. Part of the reason it's this low is because of BJ leaving. The other reason it's here is because every time it's happened, I either don't care because ofone reason oranother(editing in CI/and just didn't care since Ian or Jenn wereobviously notbeating Tom)or the person I'm rooting for leaves (BJ and Cirie). There's not much really to say, it was only exciting the first time, and the suspense died the secondtime it happened. I've liked every other tie breaker much better, and I wish they'd bring them back.
49. 42 Days
Seasons: Australia
Memorable Quote: "Hey, there is a way for us to add an extra episode." -Burnett
Another one with not much to say. I don't really see the point of them adding 3 days except to get more ratings by adding an extra episode. Really all it
did though was make the final episode much more boring than it should have been (much like all the others with only one boot). Oh well, glad they've never
done it again.
Now we're finally at the point where every single one from here on out I have enjoyed for at least one reason or another (either concept, entertainment
value, helping out one of my favorites, or all of the above).
