There may or may not be a rule against it, but I think the producers would advise the mole not to initiate coalitions because it would unfairly aid or hinder whichever player the mole chose to align with. I'd have a real problem if Clay won because Mark chose him for a coalition and Clay's greater familiarity with Mark, as a result of the coalition, lead him to winning.

Except that's exactly what happened in Season 1 with the final 3. They were all buddies and it definitely helped edge out Charlie. Stephen won, I feel, because he knew K. the best. I think it is completely unfair but it is part of the magic of Season 1.
