Eh. I'd take unpolished dancing over mediocre singing and horrible acting, any day!
Yeah the part of Elle really requires the Whitney Houston esque voice. Also, you have to be an amazing actress to play Elle. Trying to act like a shallow dingbat is the hardest of all parts.
