Look, it really is a line!

I've been surprised how little info about Gabon, beyond ecotouristic babble, I've been able to find in english on the internet, or even in a real life library. Hopefully we will all learn something from this...

Literally, cirque is circus, but also in the sense of amphitheater, the place where you hold a circus. There is some discussion on the net of the Gabon cirques, in french. I think they are being described as canyons, created by erosion. Which I'm pretty sure doesn't make sense - the geological term cirque is a canyon created by a glacier, which I don't think they much have at the equator, so probably some non-geologist european (let's call her Mary H. Kingsley) just stuck on that term. So the moral of the story is that professors are smarter than the internet, and people who consult professors are smarter than surfing hippos.

Anyways, perhaps this thread could get on one of those little trucks and move to some 18 or under place?
