- If it was cashed at a bank, good luck. This time of year this stuff is VERY common, people are desperate for cash and will do anything. But the bank
obviously establishes some recourse. My assumption is that they thought it was good enough to cash without ID or a Debit Card. But like everyone said there
would be survalence footage (but work fast, the place I work at only stores stuff for a certain amount of time).
- If it was cashed at another financial institution (Loan Shark Locations, Cheque Cashing) you may be in better luck than what you think, they have to actually send all their cheques to the bank, and with all the holidays on it, it would be easy for your employer to put a Stop Payment on it. But you've said it's already cleared the bank - so good luck.
In my expierence you'll have to fill out a police report, and they'll get the approprate information from the bank or wherever the cheque was cashed. However it's probably best for you to get all the info from your employer as you can, Chq #, Amount, Account Number, Bank Info ect. as they probably won't even bother following up with them.
Chances are you'll never hear about it again after you file your police report unless something massive happened. You'll have to get the money from your employer. Unless the bank reverses it, or the Stop Payment goes back threw the Finacial Institution for them to collect the money from the Payee.
