I don't know, maybe he wasn't convieved on the island just born on the island? Or maybe the baby problem began after the "incident" daniel was trying to prevent, that doesn't explain the fertility g.o.d.d.e.s.s. though unless it was build after the incident, which i don't think is the case.
I do know that was Ben main purpose for bring juliet to the island so she could try to prevent the childbirth deaths. She never could sove the problem.
