it added a twist that he'd had a spy show--/humming Secret Aaaaa-gent Man/--so when he quit the spy business at the start of every episode, it felt like he was quitting that show. As for the last show, I always figured he'd gotten sick of it and decided to blow the whole thing up on a serious trip.
