** 72. JAN GENTRY **
Thailand massacre! Jan was infinitely more interesting than Helen but she still ranks this low just because of her sheer idiocy. "Batshit older lady" isn't a Survivor stereotype that appeals to me as much as it does other people. While I do appreciate the laffos these sweet but possibly retarded women provide, it also wears thin with me and that was the case with Jan. It was both irritating and endearing how clueless and agenda free Jan was, but it got to be kind of frustrating as the season went on and there were less and less people to root for. My favo Jan moment is EASILY when she found the poor dead baby bat and gave it an emotional and heartfelt memorial service on the beach <3 And then she did the same thing to a chicken in a later <3 I'm an animal lover so I totally got the sentiment even tho her tribes were total dicks about.
On Jan's personality: Jan was very very sweet and high energy and never said anything negative at all really. She was also completely and totally insane (and she seemed to progressively get weirder and loopier as the season went on. She may have even been kind of normal when she got there). I liked Jan most of the time and I had a lot of sympathy for her because some assholes (CLAY) were always making fun of her. But she did make it easy.
On Jan's gameplay: lol. Jan really didn't give a shit about the game at all. She was just kind of there hoping to be liked until she was voted off. I don't think she ever had a strategy or even knew that she needed one.
On Jan's placement: Jan was sweet and crazy, but her archetype is kind of overrated here tbh and she had the misfortune of being cast in a season I don't appreciate as much as others. She was very anti-game-oriented which only matters a little to me. She had some funny moments but she was also kind of a one-dimensional caricature, so I don't see ranking her any higher. gj Jan!
