~ 58. KELLY WIGLESWORTH ~

One of my favorite things to do in the whole world is constantly bitch about how Female Survivor Contestant X should have beat Male Survivor Contestant Y in the finals and explain the SEXISM inherent in the idea of "deserving" and the according votes. That's not the case with Kelly W. Actually when I watched Borneo as it was airing I was FURIOUS that Kelly didn't win as I was pulling for her so hard. But as the show evolved so did my sensibilities and I cannot even imagine the show being what it is today if the vote had been 4-3 Kelly instead of 4-3 Rich. It freaks me out to even consider. The thing I like most about Kelly is something that I don't see most people talk about, and that is the evolution of her relationship with Sue. My impression of Sue and Kelly is this: Kelly got along with Sue fine and was friendly with her, which changed Sue's entire world. Sue, having never had a female friend ever on account of how she's always been too much of a butch, ball-busting hag, clung onto this budding friendship and wrapped all of her self-worth into it. Then, when the cooler, younger people from Pagong came along and Kelly started hanging out with them more, Sue's entire world came crashing down around her. It was like Kelly broke Sue's heart and Kelly just didn't "get it". That's what I think Sue's infamous "rats and snakes" speech was REALLY about, deep down.

On Kelly's personality:
Kelly was a sheep. She was low-key, she wanted friends and she went with the flow. But when her two agendas (succeeding in the game and being liked) came into conflict with one another, Kelly found the strength to stand up to her former friends. A lot of people don't really appreciate Kelly but her transformation throughout Borneo was really quite epic.

On Kelly's gameplay: Kelly was pretty well-liked and she got into THE ALLIANCE, so that's good. What sets Kelly apart is obviously her immunity wins, without which she never would've held the prestigious title of first second placer in Survivor history.

On Kelly's placement
: Another girl whose story is better than she deserves, Kelly was kind of a bland and wishy-washy girl. She grew into her own as the season progressed but she was still kind of a bore anyway. She's very legendary as she was the good to Richard and co's evil through the latter part of the game. Without her defiance of the group the tension on the show would have totally died, and it wouldn't have been NEARLY as epic. Truly an underrated figure in Survivor history. This is as far as she goes tho sry.
