Although he was definitely a fan, he was acquainted with a casting associate whom he went to college with, prior to applying. It could just be coincidence or it could have been a situation where he sent the video directly to that person or that person knew he was a big fan and told him to apply. So, he did have a "connection" but I don't know if it came into play or not.

With Michelle being an Amazing Race applicant that would make two Fiji applicants wouldn't it? And Earl has said he was meant to be on The Amazing Race, but I can't remember if he applied for that or not. I think it's unlikely though.
Yes, there's an article somewhere that says Erin was recruited. I just haven't filled in any seasons before Amazon yet, so I'll list Erin when I update again.

Also, I'll change the number to 2/20 for Fiji because of Michelle.

Jenn and Ian makes it 13/20 actual applicants and then 7/20 recruits, as per Wanda. So it definitely wasn't that many recruits compared to recent seasons.

That was something separate. When she was dating Joel, she was at an awards show with him probably somewhere around 2001-2002 and she met Mark Burnett and he said "Oh, you should go on Survivor" to her but nothing really came of it. Then she happened to be recruited by Lynne for Cook Islands in a parking lot, so I don't think the two were really connected.

You are right about the bar, I believe - that is an old list from a year or two ago, actually, and I haven't updated it. But Ian was definitely considered for Amazing Race with his girlfriend before they wanted him for Survivor. So he was probably found at the bar, asked to try out for TAR, and then they switched him. I do include Ian as one of the 7 recruits, along with Jenn who also applied for Amazing Race. Ibrehem is the 7th. It was confirmed in an interview from a year or two ago that Bobby Jon applied. He sent in the tape from Troy, AL just before he moved to LA.
