Survivor has just gotten lazy. They don't care about the people, and don't expect the audience to, so they shove mindnumbing challenges and HIIs down our throats. Because they still need actual footage of camp life, they pick out the most cartoonish thing they can find.
More diarrhea of the mouth from Hatch. Survivor Thailand was the last season that showed a lot about the people and actual footage of camp life and guess what, that season is generally disliked by casual viewers and was panned by most TV reviewers. This is the main reason why production changed the focus to be more about the game (including challenges and HII) which increases the action and suspense that most viewers, who don't spend a lot of time thinking about an hour of TV, (unlike obsessed Sucks posters who need to get a life) want to see in a TV episode. There are some people who would rather watch Helen go on and on about recipes (boring) and would rather watch Frank communicate with an elephant (incredibly lame). Personally, I would rather watch an hour of suspense filled TV rather than that slow moving stuff.
