'Jeopardy!' Contestant Violates Rules, Appears Twice
When contestant Jeff Kirby appeared on 'Jeopardy!' this week, loyal fans poured out to reveal he was cast twice, violating the rules of the game show. He first appeared on 'Jeopardy!' show in 1999, and under the rules, contestants are not permitted to appear again without an invitation. Yet on Monday, Kirby was back on the air. Although he finished third, the show took back his $1,000 consolation prize.
Oddly enough, last month Kirby gave an interview to the Santa Maria Times about his experience as a contestant and acted as though it had been a new experience.
"I had the joy of having makeup put on for the first time. I'm red-complected, so I got a lot of makeup to try to tone that down," he told the newspaper.

According to The NY Post, the show failed to notice that he had competed on air before, but fans spotted the repeat appearance and notified the producers.
"'Jeopardy!' has a system to make sure that people who appear on the show have not previously done so," the producers said in a statement. "It has worked well for 26 seasons; however, clearly, that system failed to detect that Mr. Kirby had appeared on the show in 1999."
