Actually I watched that episode. It was one of those nightmare plane rides. It was delayed some 8 hours. They were stuck IN THE PLANE. They had not planned for the plane ride to take 8 hours longer in the air (or stuck in a locked plane), the cabin attendants didn't seem to get some snacks out there. The kids were of the age where ONE kid would melt down stuck on a plane 8 hours longer than the normal 5 or so hours it takes to get from the Philly area to Utah. Then after circling in the air forever, the pilot announced they are being routed about 200 miles north (bad weather), in boise, ID. Most people not even traveling with kids, could be undone by a nightmare of that proportion. You only saw a hint at screaming kids. The tups screamed for about 6 hours in the air on that show. It was a nightmare.
Not that I think Kate has any redeeming qualities, just putting in some perspective for any peeps who didn't see that particular episode (2 parts) on the original season.
