The Cubs aren't standing still either, as they are reportedly ready to bring reliever Bobby Howry back to Chicago to upgrade a weak part of last season's team. The Cubs also signed reliever Scott Eyre earlier this week. Various radio reports this afternoon put the Howry deal at 3 years for $12 million.

Earlier this week the Marlins agreed to send Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell to the Red Sox for 3 minor league prospects. Also out of Beantown, David Ortiz was quoted as saying that Manny Ramirez will not return to the Red Sox for the 2006 season.
