Ok, we've had a month away to relax and enjoy other things, but now the offseason MLB moves are starting to ramp up a bit. In the big news here in Chicago today, the White Sox traded Aaron Rowand and two minor-leaguers to the Philadelphia Phillies for Jim Thome. This is a good move for the Pale Hose I think, because Thome can either fill the shoes of Carl Everett or Paul Konerko, depending on how the Free Agent market works out.
The Cubs aren't standing still either, as they are reportedly ready to bring reliever Bobby Howry back to Chicago to upgrade a weak part of last season's team. The Cubs also signed reliever Scott Eyre earlier this week. Various radio reports this afternoon put the Howry deal at 3 years for $12 million.
The Florida Marlins look like they're having a fire sale, as they have reportedly agreed today to send Carlos Delgado to the Mets for minor league prospects. Earlier this week the Marlins agreed to send Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell to the Red Sox for 3 minor league prospects. Also out of Beantown, David Ortiz was quoted as saying that Manny Ramirez will not return to the Red Sox for the 2006 season.
The Winter Meetings begin in Dallas on December 4th. Look for a lot of activity on the trading front amidst a weak free agent crop.
