Funny, I always thought it was simpler than that. To me, "pitchy" is the euphemism Paula and Randy use when they're afraid to tell someone they sucked donkey balls.

Having stood in the studio for all of 15 minutes....I will say that it really DOES sound different in the studio than as broadcast, but not horribly so. Its just a small sound studio.

Um, no. The tempered scale, which is used by pianos, has twelve equally-spaced pitches. Vocalists should sing natural pitches, which are [i]not[/i] equally spaced. Usually, when a singer goes flat on high notes it means either not enough support or an attempt to force the note. Jasmine is a fine example of forcing; she is consistently flat whenever she goes high, but it's because she is pushing too hard, not lack of support. JPL, on the other hand, goes flat from lack of support. But the worst pitches this week were on the low notes. Off-pitch low notes are a big problem for singers near the bottom of their range; they try to sing too loud and usually go way sharp. Camile was horrific this week because of that. As was Teen Martin. And JonBenet Roboto. All three were just plain awful. |

Enough with all the technical singing stuff. The big question is, based on all y'all's definition of pitchy --=-- HAS PAULA ABDUL EVER LISTENED TO ONE OF HER OWN RECORDS OR GOD FORBID A LIVE PERFORMANCE? I can't think of anything pitchier. And any further references to contestants in this thread must use their ACTUAL names. I'm not geeky enough to know what insightful nicnames you rabid fans have dreamed up for them. Everso. |

If this season's emerging pattern holds (i.e., where comparable performance orders exist, 2 boots of the 3 seasons fall in the same spot in the performance order), tonight's boot is either Diana (position #1) or George (position #2).
