He is great on the show, but the thing I would miss even more are his podcasts. The episode + podcasts are what really make the show for me, they arent complete without the other.

Oy, this better not lead to Tim not being on the show anymore.

sorry, that WWD link is sub. only.
here's the blurb/update from PRGay: "Liz Claiborne Appoints Tim Gunn Chief Creative Officer By Whitney Beckett Liz Claiborne Inc. is bringing out the big Gunn. Tim Gunn is joining the company as chief creative officer, a new post and the first major appointment by Claibornes new chief executive officer William L. McComb. Gunn is stepping down as chair of the department of fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design, but will continue on as task master for Project Runway. For complete coverage, see tomorrow's issue of WWD." We don't quite know how we feel about this yet. On the one hand, it's wonderful to see Tim get so much recognition. On the other hand, it's a shame he'll no longer be in a teaching role since he's so damn good at it. At any rate, huge congratulations are in order, so Congrats, Gorgeous! UPDATE: More info here. "Commenting on the announcement, Mr. McComb said: "Words cannot express how happy we are to have Tim on board as our 'Creative Dean.' His mission is twofold: return our culture to one that is friendlier to the creative process and help shape more competitive, consistent and compelling product." "Mr. Gunn said: "Though this is not something I had envisioned for myself, I jumped at the chance to serve as a mentor, advisor and sounding board for the design and merchandising community within Liz Claiborne Inc. The talent that currently exists at Liz is phenomenal and I am up to the challenge of harnessing and focusing such strength." sounds like maybe a part-time gig? link |

Quote: It seems to me that it would be easier to arrange the PR schedule around work duties in a private institution like Liz Claiborne (who would get indirect free publicity every time Tim is on PR) than an educational institution like Parsons where the schedule must be maintained. I'm thinking this will be good for Tim remaining on PR. (does anyone watch PR for the designers anymore? I, too, watch for Tim and his podcasts have gotten me through many a session on the elliptical at the gym) |

And let's be honest here, becoming such a huge tv personality (he really has crossed over beyond Project Runway, even non-viewers know him now) it must be difficult for him to maintain himself in a teaching capacity. Would students take him seriously, or would they be expecting Project Runway?
A good move for him...and probably a very well compensated move. Congratulations. |

Quote: I don't know boo about Claiborne and whether they only sew granny underwear for the geriatric set. But if you hate the limitations in the clothing lines they produce, isn't it a good thing that they hired a new creative director like Time Gunn? Doesn't that show a willingness to think outside the box, or take steps that may help give the company a different image and possibly assist them in creating a product that will appeal to a broader market? And maybe at the same time make a small contribution to your precious world of fashion, where apparently people don't need actual clothes? Sheesh, it's scary how some people just ooze pessimism and bitterness with their words. |

You know, I wanted to reply at first but then I thought , no, don't, I love Gina and Tony, and this is Sucks afterall.
Having said that. I ended up (by accident I swear) at a Liz C outlet store last summer, and while I had always thought of LC as a good place for 'business casual' (I live in a flyover state now, so blow me), and I was pleasantly surprised. I got some really cool basic black pants that were as on the edge of 'skater-boi' pants as business casual ever gets. And some of those crossover black shoes. So the additional vision of 'creative dean' Tim Gunn seems to augment just what LC may already been working on. Contemporary working gal clothes? edgy comfy? |

Another story about Tim and Liz Claiborne | ||
|
LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Tim Gunn, whose fashion know-how on the popular television reality show "Project Runway" has made him a household name among fledgling designers, will become the new chief creative director of Liz Claiborne Inc., the company said on Thursday.
Gunn -- known for encouraging fashion designer contestants struggling over garments to "make it work" -- will be responsible for attracting and developing creative talent at Liz Claiborne, whose brands include Ellen Tracy, Juicy Couture, Lucky Brand Jeans, Laundry by Shelli Segal and Liz Claiborne. He will report to Chief Executive William McComb and said in an interview he will start on or around March 5. Gunn, who has been on "Project Runway" since its launch in 2004, said he was looking forward to the challenge of working with a group of brands with such a wide range of customers and price points. "It sounds rather daunting, doesn't it?" he said in an interview. "It's formidable but it also makes it so exciting." Although it was his role as the avuncular and discerning mentor on "Project Runway" that has garnered him fame, Gunn has served since 2000 as the chair of the department of fashion design at Parsons The New School for Design in New York. Gunn, 53, said he was looking forward to applying his skills in "the real world" after being in academia for nearly 30 years. In addition to "Project Runway, he is slated to appear in his own show on the Bravo network, "Tim Gunn's Guide to Style," later this year. McComb -- who said that the company supports Gunn's ongoing TV responsibilities -- said Gunn's role at Liz Claiborne will not involve overseeing brand positioning and product design. "Tim will be a spokesperson for the creative community, a champion of product innovation, integrity and exceptional price-value and a catalyst for the creation of the irresistible product our consumers want and deserve," McComb said in a statement. |

Are you kidding?
Liz Claiborne doesn't just make Liz Claiborne. They have manufacturing and merchandising agreements with about 30 major clothing brands, including Juicy Couture, Kenzie and Kenzie Girl, Laundry by Shelly Segal and Lucky Brand Jeans. Here's a link to their Brands. www.lizclaiborneinc.com/o..._index.htm |

Who gives a crap about Tim's other job as long as he is still on PR? Why are people defending Liz Claiborne? This is Sucks. This forum is called OTHER SHOWS THAT SUCK. If you can't stand the hate and negativity, there are plenty of nicey-nice boards for you to post at where the mods will edit out all of that stuff for you. Suck it up.

sounds like Bravo doesn't know what they hell they are doing.....the show isn't even renewed yet!
from msnbc.com: Q: When will the new season of Project Runway start? Diane, Florida A: No one knows. The show is Bravo's number one series of all time, yet unbelievably, it still has not been officially renewed for a fourth season. A: When asked whether the series would return this year, Bravo's president recently only told The Chicago Tribune's Maureen Ryan "I think so." That sounds like a scary answer, but it's practically impossible to think the show won't return. Equally surprising is the fact that Tim Gunn who is leaving his job at Parsons to work for Liz Claiborne has not officially signed a contract to appear on the fourth season. However, he told two separate publications this weekend that he will, in fact, return to the show. (Hell also be back on Bravo with an entire series that was created just for him. Tim Gunns Guide to Style will follow Tim as he helps make over people who desperately need his help.) My educated guess is that Bravo will announce the series' renewal in February or March, and cast for the show in March, April, and May, and then tape in June, the same time "Project Runway 3" was in production, and the earliest they can use Parsons' facilities. Then, the show will again debut in July, concluding in time for Fashion Week in the fall. Again, that's just my speculation, but if anyone wants to bet a quarter on it, I'll take the bet. A.D. |
