<A distinct drumbeat is heard as the camera pans out over a crashing wave. A light melody then begins to play as the screen shifts through an island canopy, passing by monkeys, birds, and a large snake as it enters a clearing. Panning past a small pack of wild dogs, the camera reenters the clearing and zooms in on a tiny gecko perched on a tree branch, which turns and opens its mouth at the camera. The camera then shoots out into the ocean, where Jeff Probst is perched atop a large ship heading into shore>

 

Jeff Probst:  We are standing in the middle of the South Pacific aboard a merchant ship bound for the Tongan archipelago. <A woman with long blonde hair (Sonia) is shown looking out at the islands, her right arm resting on the edge of the deck> These islands have been inhabited for centuries by indigenous tribes rich in culture <flashes of Tongan tribesmen and women dancing in a circle are shown. Two men take long sticks and crash them together with a shout> and crawling with danger. <a small rat is shown being devoured by a giant green snake. The camera immediately snaps to pan over the center of the ship, where two young women, one Asian woman in a green shirt (Lin) and one brunette in a dark green dress with a green buff tied around her wrist (Rebecca), are shown sitting near the mast> It is in this strange, new land where 16 Americans will be abandoned. <An African American man (Owen), a young Asian man (Matthew), and a woman with long hair tied in a braid (Layla) are shown standing near the rear of the ship, each wearing a blue buff> Forced to work together to create a new society, they will have to battle the elements <thunder crashes during a storm and the camera shows two men, one middle aged with grey hair (Kent) and one with dark, messy hair (Will) both standing near the ship’s steering wheel wearing green buffs> and each other. <a tall black woman (Fiona) and a young woman with short hair (Sarah), each wearing blue buffs, glance at each other as the ship rocks to the side> In the end, only one will outlast all the rest <An older woman with whitening blond hair (Helen), a young man with a shaved head (Erik), and an older man with a serious expression (Brendan), each with a blue buff are all shown near Jeff Probst> and claim the million dollar prize. <an older Arabic man (Hassan) is shown seated by some steps, just next to a tall woman with long brown hair (Louise) and a thin young man with red hair (Sean), each wearing a green buff. 39 days, 16 People, 1 Survivor! <the camera pans over the entire ship and then zooms in on Jeff Probst as he shouts the final words before floating above the ship>

 

<The sun breaks out over a cliff and then fast-forwards into the sky. As the opening shouts of the theme echo, the camera floats by a figure standing alone on a dark hill, with a torch in their hand. The ship from the opening crashes up and down in the waves, with flashes of the castaways on board. An ocean wave is shown crashing over a large outrigger canoe that says NIUAS on its side in large letters. Fiona is shown smiling while carrying a bag over her shoulder and then shoving another castaway out of the way in the water as she runs forward. Erik is shown shouting and pointing during a challenge and then tending the fire at camp. Sarah is shown carrying a bundle of wood and then laughing at a tribemate’s comment. Brendan is shown smiling at camp and then running forward with a rope around his midsection. A tiny tree frog is shown leaping through the air. Helen is shown walking in the ocean, then untying a rope during a challenge. Owen is shown from the side as he walks along the beach and then is shown diving into the ocean during a challenge. Will is shown grinning with his arms crossed and then glancing behind him as he pulls a rope during a challenge. Lin is shown looking up out of the shelter and then tending the fire. Hassan is shown gesturing and speaking around the fire, then shown pointing off into the distance. Kent is shown sparking a flame with flint and steel, then shown looking down and smiling. A bird is shown snatching a fish out of the water. Sonia is shown with her teeth clenched as she holds onto a rope and then is shown cheering at a challenge. Louise is shown walking around a large tree, with her hand on the trunk, then carrying a pile of firewood at camp. <As the boat lays anchor, Jeff Probst walks to the upper deck of the ship to address all of the castaways>

 

Jeff Probst: Welcome to Survivor: Tonga. <The castaways clap and cheer> In a few minutes, you will begin a 39 day long adventure that will forever change your lives. However, before you begin, you each will have a chance to introduce yourself. You can state your name, your job, where you’re from and anything else you’d like the other castaways to know. <He gestures at Brendan>

 

Sarah - Confessional: Right away, Jeff tells us all to introduce ourselves and I’m like: “Oh crap!” Getting put on the spot is pretty scary, especially in a game like this where everything you say matters.

 

Brendan: The name’s Brendan. I’m from Indiana and I work in television. <Helen cocks an eyebrow>

 

Erik: What’s up guys. I’m Erik and I’m a college student at Duke. <He smiles and claps his hands together>

 

Helen: My name is Helen, and I am a teacher from Colorado Springs. <Hassan smiles>

 

Hassan: <raises a hand in greeting> I am Hassan, a professor of linguistics at the University of Chicago. <Owen nods and Fiona smiles>

 

Sean: Hey everyone. I’m Sean, I’m from Nashville, and I’m working on my MBA right now. <Erik grins>

 

Louise: I’m Louise. I’m a rancher from Oklahoma. <Rebecca blinks and nods>

 

Louise - Confessional: I’m a bit of a <pauses> loner, so just kind of jumping out there was a step out of my comfort zone. I’m used to the company of animals and nature, not so much 15 other people, so this is the start of a lot of new experiences. <she laughs and smiles>

 

Sonia: Sonia. I’m a Graphic Designer from Savannah. <Will tilts his head and blinks>

 

Fiona: I’m Fiona. I’m from New Orleans and I work as a journalist.

 

Sarah: I’m Sarah and I’m an Actress living in LA. <Brendan looks unimpressed>

 

Matthew: I’m Matthew and I work in New York as an Accountant.

 

Matthew - Confessional: I don’t want to tell people that I work pretty closely with those who manage Wall Street, because, in case you haven’t heard, nobody really likes those people. It’s not that I want to lie, I just think that them knowing my real job won’t do me any favors.

 

Owen: Hey everybody. I’m Owen and I’m a counselor from Wisconsin.

 

Layla: Hey guys. <waves> I’m Layla and I’m currently a student at the University of Washington.

 

Lin: <shyly> I’m Lin… I’m a urban planner from Washington D.C…. <Helen smiles encouragingly>

 

Rebecca: My name’s Rebecca and I’m a Nurse from Dallas. <She smiles broadly>

 

Kent: I’m Kent Peterson and I’m a sports coach from Dayton, Ohio.

 

Will: Alright. <he uncrosses his arms and smiles> I’m Will, I’m from Miami, and I just opened my own small business.

 

Will - Confessional: In the game of Survivor and in poker, you never want to give away when you’ve got a good hand. <He smiles and gestures> I’ve got a comfortable job in the insurance industry and I’ve won a lot of money in a poker tournament, so the probability of anyone who already knows that wanting to give me more money is incredibly small. I’ve got the skills to succeed at the game and I’m going to use them, I’ve just got to convince the others that I’m playing from a weaker hand so they don’t take me out too soon.

 

Jeff Probst: Okay. Now that you all at least have heard everyone’s names, let’s begin. All around this ship there are a variety of supplies that you can take with you to begin your journey. There’s food, <bananas are shown> shelter materials, <a small tarp is shown> and even flint if you can find it. <the flint is shown tucked away in a far corner of the vessel in a notch in the wood> On either side of the ship is a large raft labeled with your tribe color. <Both rafts are shown> On my start, you will be given 3 minutes to grab anything off the boat that you want and get overboard along with your raft. Here are maps to your respective camps. The green tribe is Vavau <pronounced “Va-vow”> and the blue tribe is Niuas <pronounced “Nee-you-aas”> <He hands the VAVAU map to Kent and the NIUAS map to Brendan> Is everyone ready? <Everyone tenses up> Survivors ready… GO!

 

<The ship rocks as everyone scrambles to grab anything near them. Kent heads to the Vavau raft and cuts it loose>

 

Kent: Grab everything and toss it down to me! <He jumps into the water and lands easily on the raft. Rebecca immediately arrives at the side of the deck and tosses a basket of firewood to him>

 

<Near the back of the boat, Will and Owen are frantically searching for the flint>

 

Owen – Confessional: When Jeff said there was flint on the ship, my mind immediately focused on finding it. Nothing is more important than fire in this game, it boils water, cooks food, and keeps you warm. <he counts off on his fingers as he explains the earlier facts> The other guy, Will, had the same idea, so I was scrambling trying to find it before him.

 

<Helen is shown collecting a lot of Niuas’ items by their raft. Brendan runs by and drops a small pile of coconuts>

 

Brendan: Let’s go! Get moving!

 

Helen: <picks up a machete and chops the Niuas raft loose> I’m getting everything together! <Brendan shakes his head as he runs. Helen yells over to Matthew and Layla to come help her get things off the raft. Layla dives straight into the ocean and comes up near the side of the raft>

 

Layla: Throw it down! <Matthew and Helen start tossing things onto the raft and into the water>

 

<As the camera snaps back to showing Owen and Will still searching frantically for the flint, it then glances over to Lin, who is untying a bunch of ropes from the back part of the ship. As she finishes, she notices a small opening in the ship’s wood>

 

Lin – Confessional: I was grabbing some rope from the back of the boat when I saw this little opening. <She looks in, sees that the flint is there, then picks it up> I reached in and found a small metal thing. I’m not actually sure what it is, but it has this interesting edge <she runs her finger along the edge that you would strike with a machete to create a spark> so I think that I’m going to keep it. <she stows it in her pants pocket> This sounds stupid.. but maybe it could be useful to, I don’t know, file nails or something?

 

Jeff Probst: Ten seconds left! Get overboard! <Lin’s head snaps up and she races back towards the rafts. Layla, Brendan, Erik, and Matthew are all in the water. Helen, Fiona, Owen, and Sarah grab the last of the Niuas items and jump onto the raft. Fiona and Helen make it onto the raft with Brendan’s help. Owen and Sarah slip off and into the water. With Vavau’s raft, everyone is onboard except for Hassan, who is trying to gingerly climb down the boat side. He eventually slips and falls into the water>.

 

Hassan: Ah! Help!! <He struggles in the water. Sonia looks confused while Will grabs Hassan’s arms and pulls up him up onto the raft> Thank you…

 

Hassan - Confessional: I just learned how to swim a few weeks ago. <he laughs> Needless to say, jumping into the ocean and swimming to shore was very frightening. When I tried to climb into the raft, I slipped and panicked. Will had to help me get on the raft.

 

<Both tribes set out in different directions, headed for different islands>

 

Vavau Tribe – Day 1

 

<All eight tribe members are seated on the raft and are paddling towards a nearby island>

 

Kent: Okay, everyone. Stroke! <everyone paddles in unison> Stroke! Harder on the right  side! <everyone continues to follow Kent’s directions and the tribe quickly makes it to shore. Everyone picks up a few items from the raft and stumbles ashore. Lin slips and stumbles into the water. Sean, who is walking nearby her, takes her hand and helps her back up>

 

Sean: You alright?

 

Lin: Yes. Thank you…

 

Sean: Can you carry all of that? <Lin is shown carrying a lot of items from the raft in her arms>

 

Lin: I think so, yes. <three of the water canteens over her left shoulder slip off into the water. Sean laughs and picks them up>

 

Sean: Looks like you need a hand. <Lin frowns and looks away, embarrassed>

 

Lin: I guess so… <Sean grins>

 

Lin - Confessional: I’m used to being independent back home. I’ve never had to rely on others to motivate me or keep me on track; I’m self-motivated and organized. <laughs> I can always stay on top of things and I’m used to always doing more than my share. Maybe it’s some need to prove myself to these people, or… I don’t know. <shakes her head> I know that being seen as weak or lazy can make people dislike you, and in a game like Survivor, that’s a death sentence.

 

Lin: <starts walking faster> I can get the rest, don’t worry… <Sean stops and tilts his head>

 

Sean: <shouting after her> Okay then! <shakes his head and continues to walk towards camp>

 

<Sonia and Will are the first to reach that Vavau flag>

 

Will: Hey everyone, gather round! <he gestures towards the flag. Everyone quickly gathers. Kent speaks up>

 

Kent: Okay. So, we’ve got about 5 or 6 hours until sunset. We should try to get fire started, find the water, and build the shelter. There are 8 of us, so we should split up into 3 groups. <he holds up 3 fingers> How about 2 people find the water, 4 people work on the shelter, and 2 more work on starting the fire? <Louise nods>

 

Sonia: I’ll work on the shelter.

 

Will: Me too.

 

Sean: I’ll try working on the fire.

 

Rebecca: I’ll go find the water. <Kent hands her the map to the water well>

 

Hassan: I’ll go as well. <he walks over to Rebecca>

 

Louise: I’ll work on the fire.

 

Kent: Then… <he glances at Lin> Ling is it?

 

Lin: Lin.

 

Kent: Alright. We’ll work on the shelter too.

 

<the groups separate. The camera focuses briefly on Will and Kent as they’re beginning to scope out the shelter. Sonia and Lin are out of earshot temporarily.

 

Will: Hey, Kent! <Kent nods and looks over> Look, you’re a good leader, you coach sports back home, right?

 

Kent: Yes.

 

Will: The tribe needs someone like you as the leader, if you’re willing… <checks to see where Sonia and Lin are> I’d like to make an alliance with you. You know, to keep the strong, keep hard workers around.

 

Kent: That sounds fine to me. <He extends his hand to Will, who shakes it>

 

Will - Confessional: Making an alliance with Kent right away is my best move right now, because Kent seems like an honorable guy, like he’d stick to his word. <Kent is shown whacking at a log with a machete> I want someone like that, some loyal who I can control. Also, if Kent is the leader, then not only do I not have to be the leader, but I’ll be able to influence him more easily than if I wasn’t aligned with him.

 

<The camera leaves the center camp and focuses in on Hassan and Rebecca walking in the woods>

 

Hassan: Whew! <slows down a little bit>

 

Rebecca: You alright?

 

Hassan: Just a bit. Let me catch my breath… <Rebecca sighs and stops>

 

Rebecca: So, what did you say that you did back in the U.S.?

 

Hassan: Oh? I’m a professor. <Rebecca nods> I teach classes in Arabic, Spanish, Farsi, and Urdu.

 

Rebecca: Wow! <genuinely surprised> That many?

 

Hassan: Oh yes. I can speak about seven or eight languages.

 

Rebecca: Did it take you long to learn them all?

 

Hassan: Years. Some of them are related, which helps, but I’ve learned a lot from travelling and living in different countries.

 

Rebecca: Wow… So you’ve lived all around the world?

 

Hassan: Yes. I’ve spent time in Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, Hong Kong, England, and the United States. <Rebecca nods approvingly>

 

Rebecca - Confessional: This guy Hassan… He’s really interesting. He’s lived all around the world and has all these crazy stories… <Hassan is shown saying “once in Hong Kong I accidently started a fight because someone at the bar misheard something that I said in one of the restaurant booths”> He speaks like, ten languages, and teaches a ton of classes. I never thought I’d ever meet someone like him.

 

Hassan: <speaking as he and Rebecca continue walking> I wish I had gotten to learn more Mongolian. I only picked up a few words when one of my flights from Berlin to Tokyo had to make an emergency stop in Ulaanbaatar…. <Rebecca laughs>

 

Rebecca: You should teach me a few words! <Hassan laughs and the camera pans up to the sky above the islands>

 

<the camera then shifts over to a different island>

 

Niuas – Afternoon 1

 

<at the Niuas camp, everyone is working together on the shelter>

 

Owen: Hand me that palm frond, Sarah. <Sarah grabs one from a pile and lifts it to the shelter roof where Owen, Matthew, and Layla are thatching them together onto the roof. Brendan, Fiona and Helen are all working together on the floor of the shelter, tying knots. Erik is alone trying to start the fire>

 

Erik: <trying to spin one stick into another> Damn… Not even a little bit of smoke… <He keeps at it, but is getting tired>

 

Helen: Erik, why don’t you come over and help us finish up the shelter floor? <Erik looks annoyed>

 

Erik: I’d rather have fire than a pile of sticks to sleep on. <Fiona glances over her shoulder in anger> At least with a fire we can boil water to drink. We can always sleep outside.

 

Helen: Well, I’m not sure all of us agree with that… <Erik rolls his eyes>

 

Helen - Confessional: When we were all working together on the shelter, it was going really quite well, but Erik seemed to think that working on the fire was more important. <Erik is shown gritting his teeth in frustration> Normally, you know, I’d be all for multitasking, but what’s the point if we don’t even have the flint?

 

<Layla and Matthew are shown working together on the shelter>

 

Layla: Matt, hand me a few long pieces. <Matthew tosses a few shafts of chopped wood, which she secures to the top of the shelter>

 

Matthew: Here… <secures a rope to one of the lower parts of the shelter, then feeds it up to Layla> Do you need any more?

 

Layla: A little bit more on this side. <he hands some more rope up> Good, that’ll do it. <she jumps down> Looks pretty nice, huh? <Matthew nods> We’re almost done, now just to help with the floor…

 

Matthew: Right.

 

Matthew - Confessional: Camp life has started out ok. We’ve almost got the shelter done, Layla and I finished the roof together. If Erik would just get with the program, we’d already be done.

 

Erik: <still struggling> Damn!

 

<the camera shifts to show Layla now helping Fiona wrap the floor of the shelter together>

 

Fiona: Oh, that’s it! <Layla smiles as she ties off one corner of the structure>

 

Layla: We’re getting there… <Turns to help Helen with her corner>

 

Fiona: With you two helping, we’ll be done so fast. <She moves to clear some dropped bags and canteens near the corner that Owen is trying to work on>

 

Owen: Hold onto this for a second.

 

Fiona: Got it. Let me know when to stop.

 

<Layla and Helen are shown working hard on one of the unfinished corners>

 

Helen: Oh, thank you!

 

Layla: Glad to help!

 

Layla – Confessional: You know, in this game, everything that you do matters. Yeah, I’d love to go swim in the ocean or play on the beach or even work on Erik’s sad attempt at fire, but the shelter is important to my tribe, especially the older ones, so I will do what they see as important. <Owen, Helen, and Fiona are shown> Earning goodwill certainly won’t hurt me!

 

Niuas – Evening 1

 

<The camera shows the clouds shifting overhead, then returns to the Niuas camp center. Brendan and Matthew are now working with Erik on the fire while others have gone in search of food>

 

Erik: Gah! <frustrated> We almost had it that time…

 

Brendan: We probably shouldn’t bother with it until we get the flint.

 

Erik: Yeah, but, getting that fire, can you imagine how great that’d be on day 1?

 

Matthew: We shouldn’t sacrifice everything else just to… <Brendan cuts him off with a finger to his lips. Brendan glances around>

 

Brendan: Look, it’s not too early in the game too start making alliances… <he eyes Matthew and Erik, who both nod> How about an agreement? <Erik smiles and nods>

 

Erik: Us three guys? I like it, I like it…

 

Brendan: Helen has been just <Erik nods> grating on you, I know. You didn’t come out here to be mothered.

 

Erik: That’s exactly what’s been going on! <Matthew remains neutral> She needs to go first.

 

Brendan: Frankly, Fiona and Helen both have no business being out here. <Erik nods> I mean, they’re nice, but in the challenges, how are they gonna keep up?

 

Erik: Yeah and challenges are number one in this game! Gotta compete and win. The older ladies <pauses> they’re gonna, uh, slow us down.

 

Brendan: Right. So, I’m saying that us three and maybe Owen, maybe Layla, we should get together. Run the show.

 

Matthew: We only need 5 for a majority. <Brendan nods and smiles>

 

Erik - Confessional: I wasn’t even thinking about it yet, but my man Brendan put together this alliance with me and Matt, which turned out pretty sweet. Helen is definitely my biggest target, ‘cause she’s trying to run this camp like we’re all her kids. <Helen is shown indicating to Layla and Sarah how to weave some fronds> I’d like her gone sooner rather than later.

 

<The camera leaves the beach and shows the sun setting in the distance>

 

Niuas – Night 1

 

<The unfinished shelter proves uncomfortable. Hardly anyone has fallen asleep except for Brendan, who is snoring. Layla shift in her sleep>

 

Layla - Confessional: It’s bad enough that we have this shelter that wasn’t finished, thanks to Erik. <Erik shifts sleepily> If he had just worked on it a little bit more instead of working on the fire, which he didn’t even get, then I’d be asleep right now. <laughs>

 

<Erik shifts in his sleep and bumps into Sarah, who jolts awake, sits up, and then sighs. The camera shows the sun rising soon after>

 

Vavau Tribe – Morning 2

 

<Sonia, Rebecca, and Lin are walking along the beach in the early hours of the day>

 

Sonia: So, I’ve been thinking… <Rebecca and Lin stop and look over> The ladies on the tribe should stick together. <Rebecca nods>

 

Rebecca: Definitely!

 

Lin: Yes! <Sonia nods approvingly>

 

Sonia: Good. I mean, nothing against the guys, it’s just that I think that it’s more important that we set ourselves up better to go far. Right?

 

Rebecca: Yeah. I mean, the more I think about it, all four girls together seems like the smartest thing. <Lin nods>

 

Sonia: Okay. So, has anyone talked to Louise?

 

Lin: She seems nice…

 

Rebecca: I’ll talk to her, if you want.

 

Sonia: No, I’ll do it. Not that I don’t trust you girls, I’d just like to. <Rebecca nods

 

Rebecca: Okay. Let us know how it goes. <Sonia nods and then begins to venture off towards the woods. Rebecca heads out into the ocean and Lin returns to camp>

 

<Back at camp, Will and Sean are talking>

 

Will: With Sonia, I get such a bitch vibe, you know? <Sean nods and laughs>

 

Sean: She definitely seems like one of those sorority girls.

 

Will: For real. Has she talked to any of the guys yet, like, at all?

 

Sean: She’s never said anything to me.

 

Will: Do you think she resents guys or something? <Sean shrugs> Just got dumped? <Sean raises his eyebrows>

 

Sean: Who knows…

 

Will: Well, look. I mean, if she’s gonna try to take the guys out, we should try to form our own thing. <He extends his hand> What do you say?

 

Sean: For sure, man. I’m with you. <Will laughs and grins>

 

Will: I talked to Kent already when we were working on the shelter.

 

Sean: Oh? Was he on board?

 

Will: Yeah. If we get Hassan, there’s our four.

 

Sean: We’d be at a tie…

 

Will: Right. We would need one of the girls to flip. <Lin is shown, then Rebecca> Who do you think is on the outs?

 

Sean: No idea…

 

Sean - Confessional: Will feels kind of, uh, slimy… <Will is shown grinning> Yeah, Sonia hasn’t been the most social person on the tribe, but I don’t think she’s a problem. <Sonia is shown flipping her air> I’ll never say no to an alliance, that just wouldn’t be smart. I didn’t see myself going with an all guys alliance, but if it works for now, then I’ll ride it for a bit. <Will and Kent are shown talking off in the distance>

 

Vavau Tribe – Day 2

 

<the camera transitions to show Louise and Sonia now talking by the edge of the woods>

 

Louise: All the women… together?

 

Sonia: Yes. If we stick together, we’re guaranteed to make it through at least four votes.

 

Louise: But, there will be a tie…

 

Sonia: Hassan is an easy first vote. <Hassan is shown stumbling as he walks around the shelter> He’s the oldest and he’s going to slow us down.

 

Louise: That’s a shame. He seems like such a nice man…

 

Sonia: I know. <she nods> But we have to try to keep ourselves secure. <Louise looks down and nods> Look, I know you and I are the strongest girls on the tribe, so we need to be here to win those challenges. <Louise looks up> Lin and Rebecca… They’d need to go before either one of us. <Louise nods slowly>

 

Louise: Okay. With the guys though, Kent works hard. <Sonia nods>

 

Sonia: And he’s a good leader. We’ll need him. I’m telling you, Hassan first.

 

Louise: Alright. <she nods>

 

Sonia - Confessional: I’ve got all my girls on board with the alliance of four. <all four women are shown> If we lose the immunity challenge, then we’ll vote off Hassan, it’s as simple as that. If we happen to lose again, then we’ll be up 4-3 and the next few votes are easy.

 

Sonia: Great!

 

<The camera pans up to show the sun high overhead the camp, then returns to the center of camp. Lin and Sean are working on trying to start a fire. After holding the base stick while Sean attempts to rotate the starter stick, Lin stops briefly and notices a chipped nail>

 

Sean: Damn… Almost there.

 

<Lin removes the flint from her pocket and starts to run one of the edges along her nail, attempting to smooth it out. Sean glances over at her and realizes what she has in her hand>

 

Sean: Wait, Lin, is that the flint?

 

Lin: Oh, this? <she holds it up> I found it on the ship when I was grabbing some of the ropes.

 

Sean: <shocked> That’s it! <Lin looks surprised> Why didn’t you tell anyone you found it?

 

Lin: Oh, um… <looks down> I actually didn’t know what the flint was supposed to look like…

 

Sean: <laughs> Really? Doesn’t matter I guess. <he takes the flint and begins striking it with a machete. A few seconds later, a spark hits the base of the wood and a fire begins to burn> Hey everyone! <he calls out to the others> We’ve got fire!!!

 

<Rebecca cheers and Will runs over>

 

Will: Is that the flint?

 

Sean: Yeah! Lin found it on the ship!

 

Will: Nice! <pauses> Wait, why didn’t you tell us you had it?

 

Lin: I, uh, <pauses> didn’t actually realize that it was the flint until Sean pointed it out to me… <Will cocks his head in surprise, but then shakes it>

 

Will - Confessional: Here I was scrambling like a madman on the ship trying to find this piece of flint and this little Asian girl just stumbles ass backwards into finding and doesn’t even realize what it is? <laughs> I’m not sure whether to be happy she found it or shocked that she had no idea what it was! <Lin is shown smiling at everyone> This girl is definitely out of her element; she had an ace up her sleeve and didn’t even know it!

 

Sean: <feeding the fire> Burn, baby, burn. <Lin starts feeding the fire as well under his direction>

 

Lin - Confessional: Finding the flint was such good fortune for me and my tribe! <laughs> I feel stupid for thinking it was some nail file… <looks embarrassed> But, at least it came in useful! <smiles> Sean showed me how to build the fire the right way, so I’m going to try to keep track of it and make sure it stays burning. <Lin is shown tending to the fire alone> It’ll be my responsibility! <she laughs>

 

Lin: <feeding the fire> I’ll take care of it. Don’t worry! <Sean smiles and walks off to grab more wood>

 

<the camera shifts over to the other island>

 

Niuas Tribe – Evening 2

 

<Layla and Sarah are alone in the shelter while Fiona, Owen, and Helen work on the outskirts of camp in a small group>

 

Layla: How’re you feeling? <Sarah coughs>

 

Sarah: <shakes her head> Not too well…

 

Layla: <nervous> Do you think the others know?

 

Sarah: <shrugs her shoulders> I’m not sure. I’m, uh kind of hoping that I get over it before anyone realizes…

 

Layla: Good….

 

Layla - Confessional: Sarah’s been feeling sick since yesterday, and she’s not getting any better, which sucks because, out of anyone on the tribe, she’s been probably my closest friend. <Sarah is shown looking downcast> I need her to hang in here so that I at least have one true ally in the game. Right now, ensuring that she stays out here and gets better is my number one priority.

 

Layla: <Sarah sighs> Sarah, I’m going to talk to the others. We need to form a larger alliance.

 

Sarah: <coughs again> Okay… Who were you considering?

 

Layla: Matthew and Erik are around our age. Erik is a hothead, though.

 

Sarah: <frowns> So, then Matthew?

 

Layla: Yes. I’m going to talk to Matthew tomorrow morning, before the challenge. I think he’d listen to me. <Sarah nods> I’m sure he’s already made alliances, so there’s always a chance that we’ll become part of a bigger alliance. <Sarah nods again> The majority is what we need.

 

Sarah: Yeah… Just need people to give me a chance. <smiles weakly>

 

Sarah - Confessional: I’ve been coughing all day and I’ve been barely able to do work around camp. I don’t like being weak, but I’m having a hard time…  <coughs again> I just hope and pray that I don’t screw up in the immunity challenge.

 

<the camera leaves the shelter and glides over to where Fiona, Owen, and Helen are standing>

 

Fiona: The young ones… They’re all getting together, you know?

 

Helen: Oh yes… They’re just like my students. <Owen smiles and nods> Layla and Sarah. Matthew and Erik.

 

Owen: They’re all going to link up. It’ll be four versus us and Brendan.

 

Fiona: <laughs> If Brendan is even with us!

 

Owen: And that’s a big if.

 

Fiona: He hasn’t said anything to me. Not since Day 1!

 

Owen: Well, then it’s safe to assume that he’s made other plans than to work with us.

 

Helen: I’ve seen him around Erik. That boy is a firecracker if I ever saw one… <Fiona nods> Only 21 years old and already he thinks he knows everything. <laughs softly> Seems almost like a child.

 

Owen: <laughs> Well, he’s definitely strong, which is a big advantage for us in the challenges. 

 

Fiona: Well, if he’s gonna be yelling and jumping around in the challenge, his strength won’t do us any good.

 

Owen - Confessional: Fiona, Helen, and I got together pretty quickly for a bunch of reasons. Helen and I both work with youth in our jobs, so there was that connection right off the bat. <Helen is shown> Fiona clicked with us because she works hard, relates to us, and actually understands how to play the game pretty well, which, I’ll be honest, surprised me a bit. <Fiona is shown smiling> Helen is an ally out of friendship, but Fiona is an ally out of strategy. She’s smarter then she lets on.

 

Owen: You’re right. We’ve just got to use his strength appropriately.

 

Helen: It’s just like teaching a student who’s a little rowdier than the rest. I’ll try to work with him. <Fiona nods approvingly>

 

Fiona: We’re still down 3 to 5. We need 2 more people to be alright.

 

Helen: Erik’s not going to work with us, since he thinks we’re all old and useless…

 

Owen: Then... Layla? Sarah?

 

Fiona: Sarah is sick. You’ve seen her?

 

Helen: The poor girl…

 

Owen: We’ll have to see what Layla says. With her we have at least one more strong ally.

 

Fiona: The three of us. We’re all good right?

 

Helen: Oh, of course! Three strong. <she shakes both Fiona and Owen’s hands. Then they shake each others>

 

Fiona - Confessional: Owen and Helen are good people, I trust them, I really do. The problem is that the rest of the tribe is either sick, <Sarah is shown> grumpy, <Brendan is shown> or crazy <Erik is shown>. We’re not in the best spot right now with fire or water. We really need to win that challenge tomorrow and get that flint.

 

<Night falls on the Niuas camp. Morning soon follows>

Niuas Tribe - Morning 3

 

<Layla and Matthew awaken and walk towards treemail early in the morning>

 

Layla: So, Matt, I was thinking… <Matthew nods> Sarah and I have been talking, and we wanted to talk to you about arranging an alliance with you. Would you be <pauses>  interested?

 

Matthew: <pauses> Definitely. I’d like that a lot.

 

Layla: Good. Well, we’d have a strong three.

 

Matthew: Well… <pauses> I’ve got an agreement with Erik. So we’d have four.

 

Layla: Even better. <laughs> I like this alliance!

 

Matthew: <laughs> Me too!

 

Matthew - Confessional: Me, Brendan, and Erik agreed that if we wanted someone in our alliance, it was definitely Layla or Owen. <Layla is shown> This morning Layla just straight up asked for an alliance, which saved me the trouble of asking her myself! The fact that she comes with Sarah is even better, because it gives us that clear five person majority. I mean, she’s strong and, uh, really pretty, so it’s pretty sweet that she’s my ally. <grins sheepishly>

 

Layla: Let’s see what we’ve got… <she opens up treemail. She grabs the mail and she and Matthew return to camp>

 

Layla: Hey guys! We’ve got mail! <she holds up a small scroll>

 

Helen: How exciting! <Erik runs up>

 

Erik: <excitedly> What’s it say?

 

Layla: It says:

“You’ll heave, you’ll ho, you’ll drag, you’ll pull

Erik: Sweet! <Fiona looks a little apprehensive>

 

Erik - Confessional: The challenge today, it’s the big one. <he grins> First challenge of the season. We’ve gotta go out there and make a statement. We’ve gotta pull a huge win.

 

Sarah: Oh boy…

 

<The camera flips over to the Vavau camp>

 

Vavau Tribe – Day 3

 

Will: Sounds like you’ve got to run and drag a big cart or something.

 

Sonia: Shouldn’t be too hard… <Hassan looks nervous>

 

Hassan – Confessional: According to the tree mail, we need to be able to run and pull and be “quick” with our fingers. Well, I am 56 years old, so, I am not that fast of a runner and my hands are not as nimble as they have been before. The one thing I can offer is a quick mind. I hope that I can contribute at least that.

 

<the camera shifts over some treetops, then zooms in on a large plain, where two chariots are shown at the end of a long course>

 

Reward/Immunity Challenge – Chariots of Mire – Day 3

 

Jeff Probst: Come on in, guys! <the two tribes file in> How’s camp life, Vavau?

 

Will: It’s been good. We’ve had fire for a little over a day now.

 

Jeff Probst: So I take it you discovered the flint on the ship?

 

Will: Well, actually… Lin found it. <Lin blushes>

 

Jeff Probst: That must make you feel pretty good, right Lin?

 

Lin: Oh… yes. Anything I can do to help my tribe makes me feel good. <Sean smiles>

 

Jeff Probst: How about you, Niuas? Any luck?

 

Erik: No dice. I tried, we’ve all tried. We weren’t able to get that spark.

 

Jeff Probst: Aside from fire, how is it? Shelter?

 

Helen: Our shelter was finished last night. We tried to finish it all on the first day, but some of us got distracted. <Erik rolls his eyes>

 

Jeff Probst: Alright. Are you guys ready to get to today’s challenge? <everyone nods> Okay. In today’s challenge, six of you will be tied to the front of a chariot. <the chariot at the far end of the course is shown> You will need to pull the chariot past three stations <the three stations are shown> At each station, the two tribe members that are being pulled in the cart will need to reach up and untie a bag. Once you have all three bags, you must race to the end of the course, where three tribe members will use the letter tiles from the bags to unscramble a six word phrase. <”Without victory there is no survival” is shown being formed from the words> Now, do you want to know what you’re playing for? <everyone nods. Jeff unveils the immunity idol, a small, squat island statuette> The single most important thing in this game: Immunity. <Louise smiles> If you have immunity, you do not go to tribal council: you cannot be voted out. <Erik grins> In addition, you are also playing for Reward: <Jeff unveils a piece of flint and a small fire starting kit> Fire in the form of flint and a fire starting kit. Everything that you will need to start a fire and keep it going. <Owen rubs his hands together and smiles> Worth playing for? <everyone nods> I’ll give you a couple minutes to strategize.

 

<the tribes gather into circles and decided who will do what. The camera zooms in on the immunity idol, then shows the carts with everyone hooked up>

 

Jeff Probst: Okay. For Vavau we’ve got Sonia, Will, Kent, Lin, Sean, and Rebecca on the cart while Hassan and Louise are untying the knots. <this group is all shown> For Niuas, Brendan, Erik, Matthew, Layla, Sarah, and Owen are running while Helen and Fiona are untying the knots. <the Niuas cart is shown> Survivors ready? <everyone tenses up> GO!

 

<both carts fly forward with both tribes pulling well as a team. Niuas gains a slight lead as both carts approach the first station. As Niuas arrives, Helen reaches up and begins to untie the knots>

 

Jeff Probst: Niuas already at their first bag! Helen working on the knots!

 

<As Vavau reaches their first bag, Louise begins to untie the knots. Both Helen and Louise finish untying the first bag quickly>

 

Jeff Probst: Louise makes up time for Vavau! Both tribes even again!

 

<Vavau explodes forward, surpassing Niuas, who is being slowed down by Sarah>

 

Erik: Let’s GO! <he leans way forward, pulling as much of the cart as he can by himself>

 

<Vavau hits their next bag station. Hassan begins to untie the knots, but is not very quick>

 

Louise: Here, let me… <As Niuas reaches their next station, Louise finishes untying the bag for Vavau>

 

Jeff Probst: Hassan slowing Vavau down! Louise having to make up time again, and she does!

 

<Vavau surges forward towards their final station. Lin begins to tire out, but Sean helps her by grabbing her rope and helping her run. Fiona whips through the second set of knots and Niuas is hot on Vavau’s tail>

 

Jeff Probst: Vavau now on their final set of knots! Fiona trying to make up time for Niuas!

 

<Vavau reaches their final station, where Louise once again blazes through the knots. Niuas is right behind, with Fiona beginning to work on the knots as Vavau leaves their final station>

 

Jeff Probst: Louise is TEARING through the knots for Vavau! Giving them a huge lead!

 

<Vavau reaches the puzzle station. Will and Sonia both race to do the puzzle, with Hassan also volunteering. All three begin to untie the puzzle bags. Meanwhile, Niuas has their final bag and are racing for the puzzle station. >

Jeff Probst: Will, Sonia, and Hassan doing the puzzle for Vavau. <Niuas reaches their final station and Matthew, Sarah, and Layla all begin to work on the puzzle> Matthew, Sarah, and Layla on it for Niuas.

 

 

<Both tribes scramble to work on the word puzzle. Sonia and Will begin to fight over what the different words could be. Hassan simply tries assembling the top row: “Without victory there”>

 

Sonia: That’s not it, Will.

 

Will: Yes it is! This word is “survivor” <points to where “survival” should go>

 

Hassan: Without… Without is the first word! <Will and Sonia don’t hear him, but he puts the letters into place anyway>

 

Jeff Probst: Hassan doing well for Vavau! Will and Sonia need to start working together!

 

<Layla, Sarah, and Matthew are each focusing on two words. Matthew has assembled “victory” while Sarah has “there is”>

 

Jeff Probst: Niuas doing very well on the puzzle! Making up a lot of time!

 

<Sonia looks over in frustration. Hassan assembled “victory” and “there” completing the top row>

 

Hassan: Sonia, Will, look! Without victory there?

 

Will: Yes that sounds right!

 

Sonia: There is… There is! <places in “is”>

 

Will: Without victory there is no survival! <He and Sonia begin to switch pieces rapidly all over the board. Hassan’s arm accidently knocks into “victory” spilling the letters on the ground as he is trying to help. Layla overhears Will>

 

Layla: <saying it out load as Matthew and Sarah race to put the pieces in place> Without victory… there is no survival! <Sarah finishes placing “survival” into position just as Sonia and Will are picking up the dropped pieces. Layla yells for Jeff>

 

Jeff Probst: <comes over to look at Niuas’s board> NIUAS WINS IMMUNITY! <The rest of the tribe on the cart come running to the puzzle board. Erik picks Sarah and Layla up and cheers. The rest of the tribe all huddles together and celebrates wildly. After some celebration, both tribes are once again on their mats> Niuas, come get immunity. <Erik comes and retrieves the immunity idol> No tribal council for you, head back to camp. <The Niuas tribe returns to camp> As for you, Vavau, tribal council tonight where one of you will be the 1^st person voted out of Survivor: Tonga. See you tonight.

 

Sonia – Confessional: Hassan and Will lost us the challenge today. <Hassan and Will are shown walking> Hassan was not fast on the knots and Will would not listen to us on the puzzle and then Hassan knocked the pieces off the table, costing us the win. <shakes her head> That challenge was ours…

 

<The defeated Vavau tribe continues to walk back towards camp>

 

Vavau Tribe – Afternoon 3

 

<As the tribe files into camp, Hassan gathers the group together around the fire>

 

Hassan: Can I say something? <Everyone nods> I would just like to take… personal responsibility for losing the challenge today. <Rebecca looks surprised> I accidently knocked some of the puzzle pieces off the table when we had finally solved the puzzle, which gave the other tribe the time to solve it first. <Will nods sadly>

 

Sonia: Well, they wouldn’t have been able to solve it if Will hadn’t shouted it out once we solved it. <Will looks angry> So, it’s not really your fault.

 

Will: Actually, I was trying to get Jeff’s attention so that he’d come over by the time we solved the puzzle.

 

Sonia: Well, it gave Niuas the answer. So… <Louise looks downcast>

 

Kent: Stop. We all could’ve done more today. We could’ve run faster <Lin nods>, untied quicker <Louise nods>, and worked together better. <Sonia and Will both nod> Blaming each other won’t do us any good. We can only prepare better for next time. <Sean nods>

 

Will: Tonight’s decision shouldn’t be about who necessarily screwed up this challenge, but we should really try to make the choice that will make the tribe stronger. <Kent nods>

 

Kent: We will get them next time. <the group agrees, and soon disperses. Soon, Sean, Kent, Hassan, and Will are the only ones left>

 

Will: It should be Sonia tonight, but…

 

Kent: She’s strong. You may not like her, but she is. <Sean nods>

 

Sean: Then who do we target? Rebecca? Louise? Lin?

 

Hassan: Louise did very well on the knots today. <Kent nods> She earned us our lead.

 

Will: Plus, Louise does so much work around camp… It would suck to lose her. <Louise is shown hauling a massive amount of firewood back towards camp>

 

Kent: Then, we’ve got Rebecca and Lin.

 

Hassan: Rebecca is very nice, very smart. <Will glances up> She is very social, she makes us all laugh. I value that.

 

Will: True.

 

Will - Confessional: I’d like to keep Rebecca around for a couple reasons. One, she’s hot. Two, she’s easily manipulated. Three, she’s not half bad in challenges. <Rebecca is shown flipping her hair as the walks out of the water> I think she’d be the easiest girl to swing to our side if it came down to it, I mean, she and Hassan are friends and with my charm? She’ll come flying to our side if we needed it.

 

Sean: Well, in Lin’s defense, she has been working her ass off since we got here. <Kent glances over at Sean> She found the flint…

 

Will: Accidently.

 

Sean: Well, yeah…

 

Will: Well, I’d wager that Rebecca is a bit stronger than Lin. I know she’s been trying hard, but I think that Rebecca would help us more in the challenges. <Sean frowns>

 

Kent: Then it’s settled. We all vote Lin. <Everyone nods> Even if there is a tie, I think whoever they would vote for could win a tiebreaker challenge. <Kent nods. Sean still frowns>

 

Sean - Confessional: Will wants Lin gone over Rebecca just because he wants to get in Rebecca’s pants. <Rebecca is shown lounging on the beach> Lin has been trying hard from day 1 while Rebecca has been just coasting for the last 3 days. <Lin is shown tending to the campfire> I want to keep Lin around, because I know that she’d be loyal to me. <Lin is shown smiling at Sean> She’s a good friend, almost like a little sister. She makes me laugh and keeps me company. I really don’t want to vote her out…

 

<The camera shifts over to show Sonia, Louise, Rebecca, and Lin all talking in a small grove of trees>

 

Sonia: Will is such an idiot.

 

Rebecca: Yeah, he thinks he’s some suave bastard who can just get what he wants.

 

Sonia: Did he sign up for the right show? I mean, this isn’t the Bachelor, right? <Rebecca laughs>

 

Rebecca: I’d love to vote him out.

 

Sonia: So would I, but as much as I hate to say it, I think we need him….

 

Louise: If he keeps his mouth closed and ears open. <Lin giggles>

 

Lin: Yeah…

 

Sonia: I’m thinking Hassan. <Rebecca frowns> I know he’s hilarious and has all these awesome stories. He’s been great, I love the guy to death, but he’s by far our weakest link. <Rebecca continues to frown>

 

Rebecca: Wouldn’t getting rid of Will make it easier to work together? You know, make camp life more pleasant?

 

Sonia: Yeah, but Hassan can’t run, he can’t swim. At least right now, a lot of the challenges are going to be physical. <Louise nods> Keeping him would only drag us down.

 

Rebecca: I guess so…

 

Rebecca - Confessional: I really want to try and keep Hassan. He’s really pleasant to be around and he makes camp life bearable. Will is just creepy and cocky and I would love it if he could just go away. But, Sonia has a point. We need Will for his strength. So, I’m a little conflicted, but I think that I’m going to stick with what my girls want.

 

Sonia: Look, voting off someone is never easy, but we’ve got to make sure one of us doesn’t go home, and I think the best way to do that is to vote Hassan and try to flip someone.

 

Lin: Who would flip?

 

Sonia: Kent is Mr. loyalty, so there’s no way… Will obviously wouldn’t and Hassan wouldn’t. That leaves… Sean?

 

Lin: I can try to talk to him.

 

Lin - Confessional: Sean has really, uh, helped me through these first few days. <Sean is shown smiling> If there’s any of the guys who would probably flip, it’s him, because I think he considers me a better ally then someone like Will. <Will is shown grinning> Sean and I have had a friendship since day 1. I won’t write his name down, and I hope that he feels the same way…

 

Sonia: Okay, sounds good. <Rebecca nods> Let us know how it goes.

 

Sonia - Confessional: Voting out Hassan helps me out in multiple ways. For one, it gets rid of the weakest person on the tribe. It also weakens the men’s alliance and keeps around a strong target in Will. <Will is shown> All of the girls want Will gone and I do too, but if we vote out Will, we risk losing future challenges and Hassan is there as someone who could potentially flip Rebecca. Voting out Hassan is my best option right now.

 

Vavau Tribe – Evening 3

 

<Less than an hour before tribal council, Sean and Lin meet up in the woods>

 

Sean: Hey

 

Lin: Hi… <pauses> So… for tonight…

 

Sean: The guys want to vote for you. <Lin blinks in surprise>

 

Lin: Oh… well… I... um…

 

Sean: I don’t know what I’m going to do yet. Would you be willing to flip to the guys?

 

Lin: Well, I’m in an alliance with the girls. I would, uh, like to stick with that for now.

 

Sean: If you flipped, we could possibly vote out Rebecca.

 

Lin: And if you flipped, we could vote out Hassan with 5 votes.

 

Sean: Why Hassan?

 

Lin: He’s the weakest guy in Sonia’s eyes.

 

Sean: Oh, do you listen to everything she says?

 

Lin: No! I think he’s the weakest too. He’s so nice though…

 

Sean: Then vote with us! Get rid of Rebecca!

 

Lin - Confessional: Voting out Rebecca would only make Sonia and Louise mad at me. Will, Kent, and Hassan still would not think of me as a good ally, probably just as a vote that can be used. No, I’m going to stick by what I promised the girls. It might get me voted out, but I want to try to get Sean to my side, not the other way around.

 

Lin: No. I’m voting for Hassan tonight. <Sean sighs>

 

Sean: You’re putting me in a really tough spot.

 

Lin: I don’t want to betray my alliance, you don’t want to betray yours. We can still have an alliance, right?

 

Sean: Yes, of course… <he laughs> Ugh… I don’t know what I’m going to do with you…

 

Lin: <smiles> Sorry…

 

Sean: Don’t be… You’re playing the game. I can’t blame you.

 

<The Vavau tribe all grabs their bags and heads to tribal council>

 

Sean - Confessional: Rule one of Survivor: Never let your emotions get in the way of playing a good game. It’s not even day 4, and I’m already in a position where I have to pick between my head and my heart. <laughs> This is awful… Keeping Lin keeps a solid ally for me, but angers my alliance and loses another ally in Hassan. Voting out Lin forces a tie, which either Hassan or Lin could lose. I’m damned if I do, damned if I don’t. What it really comes down to is, if I vote out Hassan, I need to be 100% sure that I can flip Lin to the men’s alliance before the next tribal council to make sure I have the majority.

 

<Will is shown>

 

Will - Confessional: Tonight is the first trick. I need a little help from lady luck so that Hassan can win the tiebreaker, but I’ve yet to see Lin spark anything with the flint and steel. <a flashback of Lin struggling a bit with sparking a new flame is shown> Considering that Hassan is basically a cross between MacGyver and Google translate, I’m sure he’s had to start a fire before somewhere in his travels.

 

<The camera fades out as tribal council comes into view>

 

Tribal Council – Night 3 – Vavau Tribe

 

<the tribe files into tribal council while Jeff Probst observes from the center of the structure>

 

Jeff Probst: Each of you can take a torch, dip it in, and get fire. In this game, fire represents life. When your fire is gone, so are you. <everyone’s torches are lit and burning>  A fate that awaits one of you tonight. <Lin and Hassan are shown> Sonia, walk me through the end of the immunity challenge, what happened?

 

Sonia: Well, we had just about solved the puzzle, and then Will happened to shout out what the answer was. I believe that the other tribe was then able to solve the riddle before we were, also in part due to Hassan accidently knocking over a few puzzle pieces as we were arranging the final solution.

 

Jeff Probst: Hassan, do you agree?

 

Hassan: Will and Sonia were arguing with each other and not listening to me. I had solved the first two words, allowing Will to figure out the rest of the phrase, but I think that we would have solved the whole puzzle more quickly if we had worked as a team. <Sonia glares at Will, who smirks> However, I did knock over the puzzle pieces at the end of the challenge, and so I take full responsibility for our loss. <Rebecca looks sad>

 

Jeff Probst: Rebecca?

 

Rebecca: That could’ve been any of us. Hassan stepped up and volunteered to do the puzzle. I didn’t feel very confident about doing the puzzle, so I’m thankful that he’s willing to do that.

 

Jeff Probst: Will, what do you think? Is Hassan doing what he can? Is it enough?

 

Will: I think that it’s hard to judge any one person’s merits based on one challenge. Yes, he may have messed up once, but I think he is wise enough to help us down the road. <Hassan smiles> He’s been all around the world, he’s helpful around camp, he makes us all laugh.

 

Jeff Probst: So, is age an easy factor to pick on? What else is there to consider?

 

Will: There’s literally nothing to complain about with Hassan, except for that he’s 56 years old and might not be as fast as the rest of us.

 

Kent: Well, I’m no spring chicken, but I’m hanging in there. There’s something to be said for us older folks. We have a lot to offer to this tribe and this game. One thing that I value is loyalty. I know when I look in Hassan’s eyes and I shake his hand that I can trust him. <Hassan is shown nodding> That means a lot to me, maybe more than a little bit of youth. <Lin is shown frowning>

 

Sonia: I agree with Kent, loyalty is absolutely important. But, we’re still in the early part of the game. Trying to create a super solid alliance while completely ignoring tribe strength is not the right way to go. We need to vote out our weakest link tonight, and I’m sorry to say it, but I believe that that’s Hassan.

 

Jeff Probst: Hassan? Are you the weakest?

 

Hassan: I am the oldest player on this tribe and I think in the game. It has not been easy, but I have lived through far worse conditions than this. I can bring a strong work ethic, a lot of life experience, and a big heart. I have enough stories to last 39 nights with this tribe if they are willing to keep me. <Rebecca smiles>

 

Jeff Probst: So then, where is your vote going tonight?

 

Hassan: I think everyone knows where the alliances stand. My vote is going towards the littlest lady on the team, Lin. She is bright, kind, and works very hard, but if I am staying, we need all the strength we can have on this tribe to help us win, because I will not be as strong as the other 6.

 

Jeff Probst: Lin, he just threw your name out there. How do you respond?

 

Lin: I have brought everything that I can right now to this tribe over these three days. I’ve constantly managed the fire, helped boil water, and did not slow us down in the challenge at all. I may be the smallest, but I have the biggest heart for this team. Vavau means everything to me.

 

Jeff Probst: Sonia, how do you deal with these two opposing parties?

 

Sonia: In the end, you have to make a decision that’s not only best for the tribe, but best for you. It is a team game for a long time, but you have to be able to succeed in the individual portion too. Neglecting either component will hurt your team or alliance in the long run.

 

Jeff Probst: Okay. With that, it is time to vote. Sonia, you are up first.

Hassan’s Final Words:

            I have no regrets. I got to travel to a country that I would have never gotten to travel to for any other reason. I have had an incredible three days filled with meeting wonderful new people. I have no ill will towards any of them and I wish them all the best of luck. Someone from Vavau must win this game!
