candace, tyson, joe, stephen, & debbie were all "friend of a friend" with someone in casting
Jerry and Taj were recruited, casting went out looking for a "type," in this case, NFL wife and army seargant. I believe they found brendan this way too. Carolina,Erinn,Sydney,Sierra all recruited at random places Yul & Aras were also "friend of a friend" with someone in casting |

I thought we already clarified Candace applied even though she lives in L.A.? She said she thought she had no chance of getting on but the casting peeps were
impressed by her application.

Reality TV World: How were you cast for the show?
Candace: Well, someone from casting told me "Hey Candace there's this opportunity, they want you to apply." At first I said no, I'd never watched the show so they're like "Candace you really need to check out the show. So I got a bunch of past episodes and watched it, became fascinated by it, and just the competitor in me came out. So I went ahead and did the application and video and did the whole process. |

That is so disgustingly pukeworthy.
Some people would *kill* to be on the show, and ick ick ick ick ick at all of this. |

There was a taco stand across the street from where I was working today. Was tough to resist the urge to go out there to get a taco and get casted for
Survivor. (a true story).

Debbie applied for S2... no speaking first episode, epic intro during theme, southern mom... the parallels between her and Tina W just keep increasing.
I'm calling it. Debbie FTW. |

More on recruits | ||

I've been thinking all day about the applicant/recruit debate, and about what Adam was saying as he defended his legitimacy as a contestant. Then I
remembered something someone said about how Gregg got recruited because "they were looking for an ivy league graduate."
I finally put two and two together, and decided that it's not really a copout on casting dept's job if they find recruits, it's purely just a different way of finding people. Here's why: Just because casting might be looking for certain "types" of people doesn't mean that they pick one arbitrarily and then just stop because they have that typed filled. It's not like Lynne found Adam, then immediately called up all her cohorts and said, "Ok, I found a young white frat guy from the south, you all can stop looking now." Like Adam said, he still had to go through the same interview process as everyone else. Why? Because he was competing for a spot with dozens of other young white frat guys from the south. Just because he himself didn't seek out to be on Survivor doesn't mean they didn't find something in him that made him stand out above the other guys that fit his "type." And this doesn't apply just to Adam, so it's not like I'm trying to defend just him. Christina had to beat out other latina cops, Flicka had to beat out other roller derby girls, Rocky had to beat out other young cityboy morons. These recruits stand out to us, because we get to see them as players. How many other "recruits" do you think get rejected every season? Probably hundreds and hundreds of them. So does it irritate me that some of these guys get to be on the show when the rest of us keep sending in our tapes in futility? Sure it does. Do I writhe in agony and pull my hair out when these people don't play as optimally as we would, since they're not all Todds and Amandas? Absolutely. But they're not forced by casting to go out there. They can choose whether to go interview or not. They can choose whether to sign the contract or not. Ultimately, Survivor wasn't made so that you can I can have a cool unique outdoor experience, it's a show, and casting is showbiz. And, as a final note, and it was touched on above, too: There have been just as many GOOD recruited plaers as there have been BAD applicant players. You win some, you lose some. |

Recruits don't get rejected. It's pretty obvious the "application process" for them is just a formality. Lynne herself has even said that
most of the recruiting is done EXTREMELY last minute, so they don't have time to really look at a broad range of competing applicants for a specific slot.
Oh, and Amanda didn't apply. |

Hm, well that clears up the Ashley thing. Before reading that still wasn't sure if she was "Charlie'd" on or not.
Edit: But it's still a better ratio than Tocantins. |
