Hey all,
I am new to this, a few weeks of mostly silent participation. I finally created my own user name, was lurking under Bela2001, my sister's user name. Will anyone tell me what CBV and CBT stand for? Thanks in advance. |

Read the first message in each thread, it's explained there.

Quartzeye or anyone else, please, explain what CBV and CBT stand for. I read the first two pages of CBV and it talked about "spoilers" and having tea but no explaining what CBV stands for. I couldn't find a CBT topic in the first few pages of SS. I admit I am a newbie and maybe this is all old hat for you, but can't you just tell me what the initials stand for, I might be able to figure it all out from there, thanks in advance.
Of course I'm no genius, what do you think I am, an idiot??

CBT stands for "Conspiracy Brain Trust." It took off about 6 weeks ago as a reaction to the slew of fake spoilers plaguing the Spoilers board. It was originally a place to debunk spoilers and for its members to post their own thoughts about what was going to happen. That said, it gained popularity and became a lively community of its own complete with cyber-drinking rituals and its own yahoo spin-off club.
Eventually, as with all successful things in life, the CBT attracted the attention of the satirists. When the CBT had hit 2000 posts and showed no signs of stopping, Poignant Discussions (the multi-user "BrainTrust" of the Sucks forum) started the CBV as a parody of the CBT. They did so not out of hostility towards the CBTers or because they felt any animosity towards the CBT, but just as a way of poking fun at the seriousness of the Spoilers board (poking fun at things that ought to be "serious," you see, is one of the greatest gifts of the witty satirists over at Sucks). I don't know that CBV stands for anything. I'm sure that one of it's members (maybe Poignant himself) could come up with terms that make it a hilarious acronym, but I think it was selected mostly for its proximity to "CBT," the original source of the parody. That's all I know. Some of it may be wrong. I can't claim to have read all (or even half) of either of those threads, but this is what I've gathered just from hanging out and eavesdropping. Does this help? |

I have been here for a long time now. I know that the date doesn't reflect that but as a different member Qwtthinkin I have been here since April and have gotten to know the board well. I don't want to undermine the admins and mods, in any way since it looks as though you are yet again trying to enforce some rules to posters, which I must say is a step in the right direction. It's something that EZ ss boards need. Any hoo here's my question. Can I post a link in my public profile?? Is that considered alright or taboo. I know that you said to put it in a thread will constitute deletion. Is not the profiles up to us members?? Does it get censered there?? Will I be banned for this?? Is it only wrong for it to be a survivor board or related?? What if the link in my profile is not survivor related but my own web community based in a different topic?? Just want some clear up thanks. Please be nice it's my b-day! Jazz |

Actually, the user profile is a perfectly appropriate place for a personal link.
(Edited to try and remove my short-lived sig line, which was longer than my response). |

MadWoman,
I thank you so much for taking the time and the effort to inform me about the CBT and the CBV threads. You went "beyond duty" in your details to explain the threads to me. Again, many thanks! Of course I'm no genius, what do you think I am, an idiot??

I'm not much for thread starting and I need help, so hopefully this'll be read if it's on top.
When I'm at work and lurking or posting, each board and each thread always comes up with the most current postings visible. When I'm at home, I go through refresh hell. I know to clear my cache occasionally, but is there a setting somewhere in my IE so that I can just go into a thread or a board and see the new stuff and not what was there the last time I logged on? Also, does everybody always have to go to page 1 of a thread and then click the last page (if that's where one wants to go)? In other words, is there any way to always go to the last page of a thread? Thanks in advance for any assistance. |

kitty:
At the top of each page of a forum is a command called "Mark This Forum Read". If you click on it as you leave the forum, the next time you enter only the threads that have new messages will be near the top. As far as having to click on the last page of a thread to see the new messages, I don't know of any other way. I could be wrong about that though. ZD |

Of course an admin or mod could delete all but the last page of a thread and then that would be the first page and the problem solved. Of course this would have no bearing on the thread content since nothing makes sense after a few posts anyway. I would suggest this for such threads as "The Thread Kill" but not for those wishing to have the most posts in a thread such as., "I want this to reach 10,000 posts by S3!" However, it would be beneficial and considered highly unethical if not illegal, if mods and admins were bribed to delete certain threads or parts of threads. Even though the red code worm is due to strike in a few weeks.
It does raise the question of ad hoc, but then that's pretty nasty so we don't want to go there now, do we?!! Just below, I have posted what it looks like to have a post completely deleted of its text. Not a pretty sight....imagine what a whole thread looks like! Will you contribute and save a beached whale from extinction? |

illegal?
Gimme a break, killing someone is illegal, killing a part or all of a thread isn't. That is ridiculous. |

Maybe I took your post too seriously? You seem to act so serious all of the time. Sorry!

Capturing Images With Real Player and CBS Pop Up Real Player.
The main problem many encounter when trying to capture from Real Player is a black screen. This is easily remedied by the following: 1. Open Real Player 2. Click View, Preferences 3. CLick Performance Tab 4. UNCHECK the 'use optimized video display' 5. Click OK You Should then be able to capture images from Real Player using programs like Snag-It, Camtasia, Paint Shop Pro, etc. I also have figured out how to capure audio & video from real player in avi format using Camtasia + Total Recorder. You have to have a bought/registered version of Total Recorder in order to capture more than 30 seconds of audio. If anyone has those programs and it is OK to do so- you may post specific questions about configuring them here and I will see if I can help. |
