During the cold war it was considered to be all of the southern hemisphere except Australia. Now it is pretty much just much of Africa and Afghanistan and a
few other small poor countries. Basically it is just countries who are lacking industry or where the industry is still developing. It is sort of archaic and
often used as an insult.

If you're continually borrowing money from other countries and not being able to pay them back because of interest, so you borrow some MORE money to pay
back that money, and it keeps going on and on like that, you MIGHT be a third-world country.
