I just finished "Spooner" by Pete Dexter. Great book. Reminded me of A Confederacy of Dunces.

Reading "Anathem" by Neil Stephenson. I'm slowly (veeeerrrrry slowly) working my way through his books.
Also, if you need a quick but fun read, "The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society" might be it. |

just finished "The Distinguished Guest" - It was just ok. There were only a couple of parts that really grabbed my attention to where I didn't
want to put the book down. Mostly, I would just read a chapter at a time to get through it. Meh.
I just started 2: "Birdsong" by Sebastian Faulks. I'm only a dozen or so pages into it, and already love it. "The Memory of Running" by Ron McLarty. Another really good one. |

Finally got the "His Dark Materials" books. Yes, I'm 10 years behind the rest of the world.

I am currently in the middle of Her Fearful Symmetry -- it is so so.
I just finished reading one of my son's required 7th grade novels -- Unwind by Neil Shusterman. The book was disturbing as all get out. The author has an extremely novel view of the future and the method in which the abortion debate is concluded. Thankfully, according to his teacher, the children don't seem to really care about that aspect of the book. |

I'm reading Anna Karenina right now. It was free on the Kindle, yay. This ought to keep me occupied for at least another week.

I recently read "The White Queen" by Philppa Gregory and "Dracula the Un-Dead" by Dacre Stoker and Ian Holt. They were both good books.
I saw a new Outlander book was out so I thought I would catch up on that series. I am now reading "A Breath of Snow and Ashes" by Diana Gabaldon. |

I'd forgotten how much I love her books. Don't bother with the new Dexter book. Thank god I reserved it at the library rather than forking over cash. |

Jewel wrote: Did you like "The White Queen"? So far, none of the subsequent books in the Tudor series comes close to measuring up to "The Other Boleyn Girl" although the last one "The Other Queen" about Mary Queen of Scots is pretty good. I just finished 'In a Perfect World' and although I wanted to smack the protagonist I had to admire her in the end. Kind of creepy the way the book was published about the 'Phoenix flu' right before the outbreak of H1N1. |

I don't know why Philppa Gregory had it out for Anne Boleyn when her sister was the little whore.

Anne Boleyn wrote: I just picked this book up. She writes in a way that just stops me cold and, on occassion, I put the book down after reading a passage or sentence because it was literary perfection (IMO anyways) and I want to savour the moment. |

I am going to download that one.
Anyone have any recommendations for a light, maybe even a funny, read? I need to cleanse my palate after Anna Karenina. It was long. And somewhat *cough* very dull. |

If anybody picks up The Original of Laura, please post a layman's review. I'm on the fence as to whether or not I actually want to bother. Sounds more
like a novelty than something I would actually want to sit and read through.

Hush, Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick. I'm almost done and it's pretty good.
Impossible - Nancy Werlin. I'm about halfway through and it's one of those that are hard to put down. Rat Scabies and the Holy Grail - Christopher Dawes. I'm only a few chapters in. It's basically a punk rock version of The Da Vinci Code but supposedly true. |
